Headers finally arrived on Friday.

Under hood wiring is almost complete. I only have 16 more wiring connections to make.

Here is what the underside of my drivers side dash looked like yesterday.

I am spending a lot of time verifying my connections and making everything neat and tidy. It will pretty much look stock when I am done.

Before I drop the engine in, I am changing out my f/r mounts and all the front end bushings, ball joints and tie rod ends.

I am still waiting on my crankshaft signal plate spacer ring to come in from the laser-cutter. It should be here Monday.

Well it took almost 5 weeks, but I finally got my timing ring spacer back from the m/c shop today

Bottom right is the 3.0 timing ring, bottom left is the 3.5 timing ring/spacer weldment and top is the 3.0 flywheel (crank side)

If you are going to do the swap this way, make sure your engine comes out of a vehicle with a manual tranny otherwise you will have to get a 3.5 flywheel so you can use the timing ring. It would be substantially more difficult to try and adapt the timing ring off the torque plate from a 3.5 auto tranny.

Now I have to send this out to be balanced. There are no local shops that can do it so that should be good for atleast a couple more weeks of waiting.

GEzz its been while since you post updates

i am glad to see that the project is still on is way

i put all my hope in you !

good luck buddy

EDIT : i have one little question

if you makes adaptors harness for the engine / tb / cluster etc

but keep the main 3.0 harness , how are you gonna make it fit at the a33 ecu at the end . I assume you are gonna make an other adaptor at the end wheres the 116 pins connector for the 2003 ecu ????

just want to make sure ??

The A33 ecu connector is part of the 3.5 engine control (EC) harness. That harness remains "virtually" unchanged. The "adapter" harness ties the A33 EC harness into the A32 main (dash) harness and the other A33 specific devices (ie. immobilizer, e-gas pedal, gauge cluster etc.)

i have said this for a while....but what do i know....i wouldnt use the 6 spd....5 speed is better geared

5 speed is better geared. plus the difference in gearing is not that far apart at all from a 5 speed max to a 6 speed max. you guys make it seem like there is a huge difference between them like a auto max and a manual max.

all you need to make the 6 speed work is the 6 speed mount that is bolted o the frame. the 5 speed mount is welded. remove the spot welds and drill 2 holes and mount the 6 speed mount to the frame. then run the shift linkeages to the interior and hook it up to the shifter itself which is another direct swap.

IT'S ALIVE

She fired right up today after cranking for only 2 or 3 seconds. I only let it run for 10 seconds because I don't have the radiator installed yet and I need to get a MAF adapter so I can re-use my PR CAI.

No unusual noises and the idle was smooth at about 1200 rpm (cold garage).

You will notice that there is no transmission on the engine in the above picture. I removed the clutch housing from my tranny so I could mount the starter. My differential bearings need to be replaced so I had to dissassemble the tranny anyways.

The two codes I have were expected:

P0550 - Power Steering Pressure Sensor - 4th gen uses a switch instead of a sensor. I will plumb a 5th gen sensor into the pressure line to take care of this one.

P1564 - Criuise control steering switch - Next time a 5th gen comes to the local wreckers, I will be borrowing the steering wheel cruise controls from that.

I expect to get a code for the downstream O2 sensors as they are still not connected.

The car is off the road till spring. I will be dynoing it sometime in late April. (or as soon as all the road salt has been washed away)

There is also another guy in Texas that has done the swap, for which I prepared the engine. He asked me not to mention his name until he is done with everything.

Also, I am building a VQ35 for my own car. I'll have some time off from work to do the install after I meet some work deadlines this coming March.

It's nice to see that this swap is becoming more and more popular.. And also that fact that you can do the swap a few different ways.
