Re-use 3.0 oil pan?

Everyone who has done the 3.5/3.0 ecu swap says they re-used the 3.0 oil pan. Why? Today I took off all timing covers off both engines and I don't see why I should put the 3.0 oil pan on the 3.5. The small sensor that you screw in the oil pan near the transmission and the one that goes between the tranny and the block, both fit in there.

Why should I re-use the 3.0 oil pan? It just seems like a b*tch to take off the 3.0 and put on the 3.5 and I want to fire it up tomorrow

The 3.5 oil pans have an oil cooler on it. I couldnt figure how to take it off, so I just used the 3.0 pan. Either one should work though.. BTW, You are going to start it tommorrow? Tell me how everything goes.

I *might* be able to start it tomorrow, *if* it can be done between 7 AM and 3 PM. The motor is almost ready to go in, but I want to solve the oil pan issue first. I bought Mobil 1 oil, a new OEM filter and a 300zx fuel filter today. All oxygen sensors are new, the engine bay was repainted black, car was delivered yesterday. The cams fit, BTW, thanks to Tilley

If I remember correctly, the oil cooler is sort of "between" the block and oil filter, right? Can't I just seal the exits of the oil cooler and leave it there, even if it doesn't work? Never dealt with oil coolers before.

How long would you guys expect an oil pan transfer to take? That would pretty mcuh f*ck up my day. Put it on chain block, take it off, repeat, ect. Just seems like a pain in the @ss at this point.

Weren't you guys using the 3.0 oil pan? At least on his girlfriend's car?

How you going the oil cooler, what do you have to hook up to it to make it work or at least avoid leaks?

As I said, both sensors on the oil pan bolt fine to the 3.5, so at least that is out of the way.

You guys posted this in an earlier thread, maybe it can help visualise:

yeah thats on my engine all of it , and actually tilley tells me that type of oil pan with cooler is on the vq 30 det . So he used the det thermostat with my car because that and the vq35 have the pipe for the coolant that cools the oil

Oh I also used the 3.0 pan because the 3.5 thermostat housing was cracked when I received the engine...

So I only need a thermostat and the pipe should already be on the VQ35?

ok here it is, You must use the 3.0 pan IF you dont you have to shave about 1/4 inch off where the CPS at trans goes, If not the sensor is too far away too read off the flywheel.

Is that because the 3.5 uses a larger diameter flywheel?

I bought a 02 Altima CPS instead. It fits right and has the same amount of wires as the 95 CPS. I took the oil cooler off today and no problem with that. So other than the CPS (which fits since it's 02), I can use the 3.5 oil pan?

You're using the 4th gen timing ring on the flywheel, right?

I'm using a motostorm UPD with the timing ring on and the sensor that reads the timing ring placed fine on the 3.5 oil pan.
