VQ30+VQ35 ARP Studs Interchangeable?

As title says, going towards a VQ35 bottom end, VQ30 heads, would the main and head studs from ARP work with this set-up? Possibly just the mains? Any help/insight is appreciated as always.

I believe the VQ30 rod bolts are stronger than the VQ35 rod bolts.

You still need those heads?

I was *thinking* the VQ30 rod bolts would be stronger, but I meant main/head studs from ARP. They make a kit for the VQ35, but I did not know whether the kit would work with the hybrid set-up. I'll send ya a pm J about the heads.

I believe the main and head studs can be used. Ask Mardigrasmax.

The VQ30 rod bolts are not necessarily stronger, they just are under less stress due to the reduced stroke.

I am sure if you gave ARP the pitch and length they could send you some VQ30 rod bolts too.

That is nice to know that the VQ30 can use the main and head studs though.

Yes, the VQ30 rod bolts are physically stronger and larger.

So when I am putting that VQ33 together, should I use the VQ30 rod bolts?

You shouldn't do the first thing and you won't be doing the latter.

Why is that?

That is good to know for us VQ30 enthusiasts. Thanks for clearing that up. Maybe it is the rods on the VQ35 that are stronger but under more stress. Either way SR20DEN knows way more than me about VQs.

Kevlo if you are using the VQ35 rods and crank then you can't use the VQ30 rod bolts since they are a different design IIRC. (correct me if I am wrong)

SR20 is also saying that a VQ33 would not be worth the hassle since it would be more work than a VQ35 swap but less power especially if you were to use the more bolt on VQ30 heads. If you want to be original then go ahead, but a full VQ35 would be more practical.

The VQ30/VK45DE nut/bolt rod fastener is stronger then just the bolt, since it has a clamping force and won't stretch as easily under heavy load.

The new high-rev 7100rpm VQ35s that come in the Track/35th anniversary model 350Zs have now gone back to the nut/bolt fastener.

They can't be interchanged. The VQ30 rods use actual bolts with fasteners (nuts). The VQ35 rods use 'cap screw' style bolts which just screw in from the bottom. And IIRC are only 8mm vs the 9-10mm VQ30 bolts. Mardigrasmax and or Tillley can probably confirm the size differences. I don't have any VQ30 rods to check.
