5spd Swap- Part II ***PICS***

Here are the pics from my 5spd swap. I did this about a month ago... I've just been busy as hell, so it has taken me awhile to post this thread.

Here is the car before the job.

I took my time and saved a bunch of cash for a host goodies. This included a lot of new stuff:

Fidanza flywheel, 5th gen clutch, clutch master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder, ss clutch line from the GD, Raxles axles, AE clutch/brake/gas pedals, B&M short throw shifter, AE shift ****, shift support rod mount, manual tranny mount, plate bolt with transaxle hole cover, shift console trim piece with boot, a lot of misc. bolts and nuts, and of course a brand new LSD 5spd tranny.

Just about the only thing that were used are the shift and control rods, the clutch and brake pedals, and a couple of the hard clutch lines. With the rods and pedals, I took them to my grinder and removed all the rust and them repainted them with rust proof stuff.

Here is all the auto junk I ripped outta there. This includes all the little bullsh!t cables and brackets. I even removed the key interlock cable completely instead of just taping it into position like Hal did in his write up.

This was the only connector I ended up having to cut. It is the connector that went to the auto shift lever. I couldnt get it undone because the prvious owner had spilt soda down in there and it solidified the connector into one **** mess. I had to cut it.

While I was in there, I decided to replace the rear main... As you can see I had the slightest seep.

I rvt'd the hell outta the thing so it should not be a problem for a really long time...

This was a HUGE wolf spider that came into the garage while I was working.

Here is the signal plate on the auto drive plate. As you can see, the signal plate is not even shaped right to work with a manual flywheel. Not to mention it is riveted on. This delayed my project as I had to buy a used flywheel, so I could get the signal plate off of it for my Fidanza.

Here is the Fidanza with the signal plate on it.

Gotta love how there is already a factory hole... Only if Nissan would have done this for the firewall.

Here are the shift rods... Sorry this was the best pic I could get, because there is not a lot of room under the car.

Here is the car with everything ripped out.

Here are pics of the pedal install. I did this back in May while I collected more parts. I just continued to drive around auto with manual pedals.

Here is the tranny adaptor for my 3 ton jack. This thing is great. It gives plenty of room to rest the tranny on and it has slots so you can strap it down. It also can pivot and turn so you can mount the tranny with ease... Best $40 Ive spent.

Here is the Fidanza flywheel mounted.

Here is the 5th gen clutch.

Here are the Raxles axles. These things are top notch... The best looking axles I have ever seen. There even filled with amsoil grease.

Here is the B&M STS topped of with an AE shift ****. The look is proper... The way the shifter should have come from the fatory, instead of the ugly @ss flagpole.

Here is a shot of the ss clutch line.

WOW... Look at all the extra room now that the auto is gone.

Ahh... Finally back together again!

Wow is that a brand new tranny? That thing is clean! The Raxles also look very nice.

I also like the choice in article for the cut harness. "I am a F**ked up chick-magnet".

Best ball park guess (includes shipping) $3500...

My original plan was to do this for $3000, but I figure only $500 more than expected is not all that bad. I figured if I'm gonna do this, its not going to be half @ssed or sloppy... Its gonna be done right the first time. No regrets. No $1500 parts car in which I put a bunch of old used stuff in that has more mileage than my car does.

It has taken me a little less than a year to save up and collect all the parts needed... Hell, I bought that tranny in January. Its was sitting in my garage for 7 months.

Yup, brand new! I got it from everything nissan for about $1500. So, I could have gotten a used one which would have cost $500-700 and then another $1000 for a rebuild, OR just spend the ame amount of money on a brand new factory unit.

I liked that article... I was great... I got a good laugh from it!

Thanks. I am really pleased with the install I did. With all the new parts that were involved and the time I spent to make sure that everything was just right, I really feel that this was probably one of the best 5spd swaps ever done. It was wxpensive, but worth it none the less.

I spared no expense. I figured if I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna do it right... Not half @ssed at all. Yeah, I did all of it myself. It took me about 4 days total work to do everything. I had a friend come over the last day and drink my beer and give me company, but he didn't help with any of the work. I enjoyed the company regardless.

Yup 5spd VLSD. I figured that if I am gonna be going through all this work and effort, I might as well install a tranny with a limited slip... And I'm lovin' every minute of it! Anyways on a side note, the LSD 5spd trannys are $30 cheaper than the open differential trannys... I just dont understand it.

I'm going to be installing one other BIG thing too... infact its almost time...

That seems cheap for a LSD, brand new trannie.

Very nice work, nice to see you take your time and do it right.

Thanks. The strange thing is that an lsd tranny is about $30 cheaper than the open differential tranny.

Was it hard to drill the holes on the firewall? Any pics? Can you give me the part number of the transmission with the VLSD?

Great job on the install..hopefully in can get mine converted soon. I'll just get me a new one from the dealership since the shipping to Hawaii is big bucks even for a used one.

To make the job on the fire wall more easy, you'll need a hole saw, a step bit, and an angle adaptor (since the quarters are so close).

Sorry, but I did not get a chance to take any pics of the holes on the fire wall.

The part number for the VLSD 5spd is 320B0-40U77.
