For +/- 5 hp 'rating' I would say the same, marketing. Besides the 04 Maxima has a 'rating' of 5hp higher than the SER in the Altima .. so why downgrade?

Different Tuning

The Maxima Engine still makes more power than the SE-R engine.

I saw a dyno of a stock SE-R putting down 216.9whp...doesn't sound too far away from actual crank hp #s

Guys, ALL FWD VQ35 engines from 02 up are the same fukcing thing. All those HP differences are BS and/or come from tuning/exhaust/intake. They're all the same. Any engine from a 02-03-04-05 Altima or 02-03-04-05 Maxima will yield the same damn results, 02's are going to be cheaper that's why everybody is going with them. 800 bucks can buy you a 02 VQ35 shipped to your door. You won't be any faster with the SE-R's VQ.
