High-Flow Cat & Y Pipe Questions

I have a '01 SE - 96,000km

I am getting a Budget Y-Pipe along with custom 2.5in cat back piping to my aftermarket exhaust (2.5inlet-2.5out)....I'll be running straight-back without the b-pipe....for those guys with catback and y pipe mods....are you running a high-flow cat? is there any point in spending the extra cash for this mod? suggestions?

Unless your current cat is beaten all to he11, it isn't really worth it. My current one LOOKS terrible, but works just fine. I will likely replace it when I re-do my b-pipe, but only because I want everything in the exhaust (minus manifolds) to be new and rust-free.

This isn't really an all motor topic, either, this belongs in general or your specific gen. forum.

Sometimes though, mr tatanko, a forum like this contains more performance-minded people. At least he isnt asking about blue headlight bulbs or the newest shift **** mod....

Today I was at an exhaust shop, and my cat flanges are shot to hell.... Also, its partially blocked, so I will be investing in a new hi-flow....NOT for performance. the gains/losses would be negligible. Only the fact that it saves me 100 dollars puts it above an OEM replacement. And test pipes are for losers

I have been through the same deal with Budget Y-pipe. The testpipe was free as a gift. I did install a straight through megan racing catback with the testpipe.

No gains, and the car smells like a tar pit everyday. tailpipe gets dirty and black all the time. There's no point getting a testpipe with a N/A setup in my point of view. Besides, that smell is just awful. I didn't like it at all.

Then I swapped the whole exhaust to Cattman Headers, Cattman's FastCat, and Cattman Catback exhaust. The result is a Day-Night difference. My Cattman's full exhaust sets the tone and pitch for a fine tune performance for my setup. Hopefully, you wouldn't have to go through that hassle of doing the testpipe. It's so not worth it because of its sideeffects.

No gains !?!! There are guys out there who say this budget y pipe adds 19hp at the wheels at peak power. WTFFFF. Maybe they are wrong?

As for the smell...I never knew about that...can anyone concur?

Pass on the "high-flow" cat, if you're expecting performance gains. Run a straight pipe.

I've witnessed before/after dynos of a 2K1 with POP, headers, Bpipe, and no muffler lose a couple hp with a "high-flow" cat.

Dude, chill out; it's the testpipe that provides N/A motors with no gains, not the y-pipe. You will be happy with what your new y-pipe can do. Peace, I'm out...

Word...that was my car. I'm happy that I am not polluting as much as a test pipe with minimal effect on HP output.
