Hmm.. dual plenum, dual TB... and quite the interesting runner/port design. Would be great to see a dyno...

Some interesting details in the pdf too...

wtf? the title of that old thread is "Exploded view of the VQ35HR intake manifold"....in what way does that focus on the car the engine is in? It gave same link that you posted, so IMO this is a x 100000

He is saying the other link is not talking about the car but about the engine or at least the manifold.

It would interfere with the firewall so badly you won't even get close to worrying about the hood.

IDK, but it seems to me that the HR's powerband is going to be much higher than the older VQ35DE I like my low-end torque, so i'd prefer to keep the IM that's on my car, even if this one could be swapped (which i know it cannot)

I disagree, I believe it will retain the low end power. Using a square intake port provides for a more even transition between the port and valve for (High Rev Efficiency). But luckily the HR engine counters the low end Tq loss with VTC's at both ends of the cam's I/E along with many other additions added to the new design. Now if you ask me I haven't seen any actual numbers that would tell me if it's swap worthy, such as upper or lower IM etc. just to early to tell. But I can only imagine the available potential this HR motor will provide.

Ah, I see I see...I forgot about the exhaust VTCs. I'm sure that this motor is very efficient throughout the powerband, but as you said, it's very hard to tell without knowing all the details, and seeing what kind of power it REALLY puts to the ground and what the curve looks like. But like i said before, it'll most likely have much more power up top than the current VQ due to the new IM (among other things, of course)

The HR equipped cars probably come with shorter gearing to utilize the higher powerband and make up for any low end torque loss the VQ35HR might have.

It also looks like the ports on the head to LIM are the same oval shape as the other VQ35s which makes this swap possible if you use the upper and lower IMs. It is only square inside the upper IM and transitions from square to oval through the Lower IM.

I'm not so sure about that, look at how the head is cast. The intake ports actually extend outwards toward the center of the "V", looks different than regular VQ35DE's to me.

I haven't seen the VQ35 up close too much, so of course don't take my word for it. But if the head ports are the same then it is possible.
