Vq30DE/ DE-K cam swap? Worth it?
Ok, so I browsed and found some stuff on this so I figured I would ask and maybe some more people may actually have tried this. I read the 'theories' about it in the stickies, but has anyone actually done it?
I have a 1998 Max with the typical I/Y/UDP/highflowcat and I want a little more. I have a project car so I am ok in that dept. (meaning no SC/turbo, or 3.5 swap plans) Just I want my daily to have more ummph. Hmm, Don't we all!
But anyway, I have read that a DE-K has 'hotter' (by .5mm larger) exhaust cams and the DE has 'hotter' (only in 8 deg duration) intake cams. Has anyone taken the intake cams from a DE and put them in a DE-K? (Not a DE w/ MEVi)
I am curious to see what the difference may be. I have the DE right now and it would be foolish to do all the work for the 00VI swap w/ DE-K exh. cams, when I could just swap the whole engine and swap my intake cams w/ the DE-K's while in the process and all is out and easy to work on. It would seem (in my head anyways) with my mods, that it would be a nice matchup. (The DE-K w/ DE intake cams with a little tune too.) I know we are not talking incredible HP #'s here, just a little more than normal and repectable for the NA 3.0. If anyone has done this, please let me know the results (power wise - butt or real dyno) and how hard it is to do (cams that is, I know how to swap the motor).
You're thoughts?
