auterra odbII scaner

I didnt know where to post that.
Here is a thing. i have my laptop P2 366Mhz and i have my Auterra scan tool.
Its very hard to make a communication between my computer and my ECU. I have to try couple times and play with ports.
Once its connected Live data readings are very slow.
Any ideas and suggestion are welcome.

Thanks
Mike.

Sorry if its wrong forum

it might be slow because of the data rate of the 4th gens aren't the quickest. SPEED can also depend on rates of ECU and or Laptop overall.

I'm almost speechless.

I know for a lot of scan tools a super fast computer isnt needed, but I cant see the P2 266mhz having the ability to allocate enough resources to properly datalog, especially live info.

does the software list a minimum requirement for hardware to run it?

No, the problem is the sampling rate on the Nissan ECU. Make sure you have fast sampling turned off in the software too. I think you get like one read/sec or something like that. Oh, and the dynotool won't work at all with 4th gen ECU's (rumored someone got it to work but I never saw that for sure)

Lots of threads on this but in summary their response on 1/7/04
"Yes, your vehicle cannot handle fast sampling. Apparently your computer can handle the faster communication and is rejecting messages. Turn off fast sampling. We've seen this very infrequently since most vehicles can keep up.
The HP Torque screen will not work very well since the communication is too slow. However the acceleration screen should work just fine since the sampling speed is less critical. Sincerely, Auterra Support "

For the most accurate data logging, you need to tap into the ECU wires and take your own data. Convert it to manageable values (i.e. NOT in mhz or raw voltages, but rather in real #’s, such as °C, MPH/RPM ).

I use the PLX R series wideband for most of my logging. Pretty fast (1/10 sample rate).

All of the software out there is very fast, but the ECU interface is what’s slow. (A32/A33/A33B)

In other words, the software may take a reading every 1/4 second, but the ECU OBD port only gives a new value every second or so.

So you'll have 4 data points with the exact same value.

I used mine on my 4th gen, you actually have to have fast sampling off for our ecu's....by default it is on...and that is incompatible with our ecu's and causes it to not connect...it will update about 1 read/refresh per second...but I use mine on a palm based pda--sony clie...

Yup, the fastest I can get with the pocketlogger on the Maxima is 2-3 samples per second.
