Thoughts on 5spd Auto swap?

I'm not sure how this thread will go over but I was just curious. I know you guys know a **** load about customizing to fit 3.5 and all the other swaps so I'm curious what the difference is on the bolt patterns of the 05 5spd auto tranny w/ manual mode (the gate shifter). I'm guessing its not possible to make it work with the 3.0 because of the patterns and ECU. Not sure how the VDC would come to play in this either. Has anyone used this with a 3.5 swap? Just wanted to see what kind of stuff is out there on this.

Your better off with manual swap.

I know everyone will say a 5spd is better but I don't want the manual. My family needs to be able to drive the car in case of emergency or whatnot, and the only one in my family that can is my father. I actually like having an auto most of the time and having the manumatic would be real nice. I think it would do good in the 4th gen as well. Unfortunately I can't search on the org so I didn't know where to go. I didn't expect much more response.

If you want a manumatic, make the 4switch mechanism some of us are using. It is called the "shiftfast" mod and the thread is on page 1 of hte all motor forum.

Yeah I know I started the thread. It's not a manumatic tho. I don't want to have to control the downshifts. The shift_fast everyone is making with the 4 gang was my idea. Well not full credit but the topic was posted by me. Greymax and tatanko helped me out on the wiring. I never got to do this because the thread got so off topic. I don't want anything to do with the tc. Just wanted to get the shift_fast having 1-4 working. Nobody posted on having 4th gear working. I know you had one made kevlo. Do you have all gears working?

I posted what I believe is the key to 4th gear, but no one has tried it yet, best I know.

Leave it in drive then. I don't understand what you want. In "manual mode" in automatics, it will stay in the gear selected(ie 4bang switch) you can somewhat force downshifts and control upshifts.

Refresh my brain again - what was your idea/thoughts on the 4th gear issue??

I've got a pushbutton shift_fast module installed, but never tried fourth gear. Too busy spraying and electric-clutching, and I forgot about fourth gear...

The manumatic itself controls downshifts. All you have to do is upshift when you want and it will downshift as you slow. The 4gang switch doesnt do that. You have to shift up and down. I don't feel like its a great idea to down shift in the auto. I was just trying to see if it was possible.

Cut power to the overrunning clutch solenoid when you try to use 4th. I can almost guarantee getting 4th with that, can't really be anything else.

The only cars that do that is my 03 g35. Our mazda6 and when I drove the 04.5 G's, they don't do it. They are similar to real manuals and stay in w/e gear you pick. You can control the upshifts right now if you want. Floor it and then go into w/e gear its in. Its either gonna be 1 or 2. No need to redline 3rd.

Interesting - well, that would be easy enough to test out. I've hacked into every other wire going into the tranny, so putting a switch on that wire shouldn't be hard. I can use the clutch control switch - just need to look in the FSM for the wire color and position.

Maybe this weekend - temp here is still in the 'teens, and I don't like to get that cold. Thanks...

So you think it's possible to wire the 4th gang switch to turn off power to the clutch solenoid and run power to solenoid B?

If - If that does it, then I can - the quick answer is to use a small 12 volt relay piggybacked onto the 4th gear switch, to pick and open the circuit to the overrun solenoid... The relay should pass whatever the TCU is sending to the solenoid, and interrupt it when in fourth gear.

Actually, shouldn't it disconnect when the pushbutton bank is engaged, when the switch is in RACE and not NORMAL?? That covers everything, I think.

The hard part is not the circuit, it's figuring out exactly what should happen and when.

sounds like more work than I thought. Has anyone done a 3.5 swap with the 5spd auto tranny? How crazy would that be? Need new mounting and ecu? what would come with trying that swap?

Nope. I talked through my **** and never pursued it.

I had a very quick short/crash course w/ the TCM & wiring as of late that may have helped me gain experience in that direction.

Haven't counted it out yet. Need a commuter car though
