Differences between stock MEVI equipped VQ30 ECU and USDM?

I apologize if this has been covered but I came up with nothing in search...

Does anyone know the differences between the ECU in the USDM VQ30DE Maxima and the MEVI equipped VQ30DE Cefiro?

Just wondering if this is an avenue worth exploring if obtaining one was not overly expensive or complicated.

Less emmisions equipment on the car, so it is wires for ONE o2 sensor and stuff like that. It has EGR since the VI has the egr input.

I would rather self tune. We ll know what that entails.

Yeah, not really expecting a performance tune. Perhaps just hoping it was possible to avoid the drop in tq. that the MEVI/stock ECU sees.

So it would throw O2 related codes, which would then result in retarded timing in part throttle operation?

It wouldn't throw an o2 code but it would only read from one bank, on most cefiro's there is only ONE o2 sensor and IIRC it reads both banks.

Just like those people w/ wb's.

Heres a dyno from my JDM Cefiro .. the big dip in power is because I openned VI to early.. now openning at 5300 rpm (5600 stock) but i haven't redyno'd YET

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can someone convert my torque figure to Foot-pounds

Blue=mevi enabled, Red=mevi disabled (pre-summit switch, as I killed factory activation wire)

I don't see there being any point to swapping them UNLESS perhaps the ECU is OBD-I and could easily be made to work with something like Nistune, in which case I would be all over that isht like a fat kid on a cupcake... but I'm not holding my breath.

Killer - something is wrong with those torque numbers. N-m * 0.737 = ft-lb which means that your reported 550N-m of torque is like 405ft-lb, which you are obviously not making.

I guess I could calculate torque from the HP# and RPM... brb.

Peak TQ on that graph is about 147ish ft-lb...

Thanks for that !! Soo my MEVI is down on the standard USDM torque figure.. Please no one take that as a gospel until I redyno with mevi activating proprely at 5300 instead of 5000

You mentioned OBDI I use Nissan Datascan via the Consult port, does that make it OBDI .. mines a 1994 so the first year of the A32 Cefiro later years might well be OBDI or II

Think you'll find that Cefiro ECU plug is Male, USDM is female.. thats why us Kiwis (with JDM's) can't use JWT's unless we make a wiring adapter (and knowing what all the cefiro pinouts are)

Thanks for that information, those were the problems I was thinking of.

Someone needs to do data logs and compare them.

Pic of the plug on a cefiro ecu.. I was told the us ecu had opposite gender plug so couldn't just plug in 7200rpm jwt

I've got NissanDataScan going through the consult port so could log.. will dyno again soon too

Nope, that looks JUST like ours

So the plug on your ECU is manual as well, same number of pins (from what you can see in pic)

Dude from my club got this response after forwarding pics of ECU plug and internals:

Jordan,
I have found out from our engineer that we cannot support your type of ECU for upgrading. It might be possible though for us to upgrade a USA spec ECU (1995-96 Maxima USA Spec,) and you change the harness connector plug to the same type. This would require cutting the harness and splicing into the correct location all the wires from the USA style 95-96 Maxima ECU connector.

I think he's full of it.. Is your stock rev limit the same as us?

EDIT: just looked at the dyno. Nevermind then.. Jdm ECU seems pretty useless unless you cant afford an RPM switch which cost next to nothing.

Still better off using an Emanage Ultimate than the other ecus IMO
