3.5 swap into a 2k

ok i have been wondering if swapping the 3.5 into a 2k is like putting one into a 4rth gen. the reason i ask is because in about a month my car will be paid off. my original plan i was going to let my mom use mine on a trade in for her and i was going to buy a 4rth gen. she informed me today that she has got her new car and is picking it up tomorrow. so i'm thinking about keeping my car with the two options i'm kicking around of either rebuilding the dek with cams, or drop in a 3.5 with cams. i just wasn't sure if it's that much harder of a swap to do it in a 5th gen becuase of the ecu or something. any input would great. thanks

This has been covered before. The swap into a 5th gen will be almost exactly the same; the major difference being that your current injector connectors are compatible with the VQ35 injectors and the 4th gen connectors are not. Everything that is covered in the stickies applies except for said connectors.

Would this make the full (ECU +3.5) that much easier for us 5th genners?

Edit: Sorry, I'm talking about the NATS....realized I'm quite vague.

Just turbo the 3.0L. Boost will make you grin from ear to ear, and why do you need to rebuild the DE-K ? Mine has 187K miles on it, compression is perfect, absolutely NO wear inside the motor and the interior is nice and golden from my over-compulsive oil changes.

I used to run juice on that car when it was new, all the way to 100 shot.... this motor is built like a tank. I would never do a 3.5L swap, I turboed my 3.0L.

"VQ" and "tank" do not belong in the same sentence, regardless of generation.

hehe, comparing a VQ to a 'yota V6 is like comparing a 2200 motor out of a Cavalier to a K20Z1....

I still think they are built rather well, mine hasn't given me ANY issues in my 187K miles.

Just turbo the 3.0L, and you might have seen THTs 3.5L cammed out 4th gen @ Maxus.... yeah its for sale. Hes not happy with the car.

Hes not going to, I built that car

My brother is buying it off him soon. Quaife, Volks, 3.5L with RevUP oil pump, JWT cams etc... You know the standard stuff. I think I turned more bolts on that car in the last 4 years than any other Maxima :P And it all started when he meet me and I lowered his car for him.... it went from there.

When deciding between the building a VQ30DE-K or a VQ35DE, you have to decide if your budget will allow you the extra $600 or so for a 3.5 engine. Remember cams alone cost ~$400. Thats a $1,000. I think you may be better off with a VQ30DE-K build + a Gready EU to tune.
Keep in mind that the 3.5 has oil burning issues.

Good luck with the swap or build and keep us posted.

Just one thing I thought may be differant when swaping a VQ35DE into a 5th gen, than when swaping it into a 4th gen, is that iirc the 5th gen TB has two cables vs the 4th gen having one.

I have seen the 4th gen TB moddified for the swap, but what about the two cables on the 5th gen? Has anyone moddified that?

Any other differances between swapping a VQ35DE into a 5th gen vs the 4th gen?

I've never come across a 4th gen that didn't have the 2nd cruise control cable. Don't remember if that was optional or not, but as I said, never seen one without it.

I have seen base 95's with it so I am pretty sure it is standard.
