vq35 lower intake manifold Talk! Topend talk!

Ok Well im looking at my vq35(out of a 02 maxima)engine and im looking at the lower intake. It looks like the lower intake gastget matches the head almost perfect but it dont match the lower intake well at all! So im onder if I have it port matched and ported out inside by the machine shop will it help topend not to fall off as bad due to letting it breath better. Also the top of the lower intake matches the gasget well but I see some curvers that could go. But up agains the upper intake its not matching the gasget. So it could have some port work done also. But will that help topend?

Ok I know about the ssim trick to get some topend back but this will be a boosted engine and I wanted to do some cams too. The cams I want to have are some that will not rob tons of midrange and low end power but some that will help the top not to fall off before 6500 that way when I shift at the 7300 area I still have good useable torque and horsepower. Does anyone have any ideas on what cam to get?

ALSO does anyone know what this is in the pic and what its used for?

Attempting to mess with the LIM w/out modding the upper manifold is an exercise in futility, IMO.

Yeah, I found that with the 00VI, and doing the LIM without doing the heads, same thing. IMHO of course.

What are you planning to do with this? Trying to port the LIM for more high end?

If by "port top manifold" you mean removing the shelf, then awesome. Otherwise...

I think some power can be made, no doubt. But good headwork including a valve job and unshrouding the intake valves is where the real gains are at.

That is the lower part of the VQ30DE 4th gen Maxima UIM cut off along with the stock VQ30DE UIM gasket.
