Excessively high idle issue - 4k rpm

Since getting my car back on the road a few months ago I have had a slight oil leak from the rear valve cover. I decided to take care of it and install NWP spacers at the same time to my MEVI equiped 4th gen. Got everything put back together and had a vacuum leak and high idle, found the EGR tube gasket out of place and fixed it. Problem is I still have a very high idle.

When I start up the car, it goes straight to 4k RPM and stays there. It dropped down once to 2500, but then crept back to 4k. Needless to say, on a cold motor, I shut it off pretty quickly.

Vacuum is at -22hg, just like it was before. My idle before all this was dead set at 750rpm. Throttle plate and pedal move freely, no sign of binding, throttle plate closes completely with engine off.

I know it is normal to have a high idle to 1500-2k rpm and pulling the throttle body and IACV, but 4k rpm? That seems excessive to me, especially since I did not adjust anything.

Any comments or suggestions? Car is a 98, Supercharged and modded to the hilt.

Didn't happen to knock the TPS out of place? Have you tried idling it with the TPS unplugged, see what it'll do?

Is your throttle body closed at idle like normal? If so, what happens if you blip the throttle

Problem fixed. For some reason, the cruise control cable took up some slack and was causing the throttle body to open slightly, raising the RPM. Never messed with it when I pulled the engine, but apparently something caused it to move this time.

I had the same thing happen to me once with no explanation of how it got tightened either. Oh well, one more thing to check next time to diagnose a problem, right?

I was about to ask if you were sure the throttle plate is closing.

Glad you got it fixed. Is it idling smooth now?

Perfect. The throttle plate was only open a millimeter or so, but it made a BIG difference in the idle speed.

Does the car accelerate smoother and faster now? What are your thoughts of the NWP Intake Spacers?

You put out an awsome product Aaron, I have no complaints. Good instructions and excellent fitment. Idle is the same, but it does seem to pull a little harder on the top end. I have a quaife LSD, and before the install I could feel the tires trying to break loose at the top of second. After the install, they are definetly hunting for traction at the top of 2nd. Not exactly scientific I know, but I have not dyno'd yet, so that is the best I've got. I have an MEVI installed but not hooked up to actuate yet, I can only imagine my traction problems once that is done...

And the best plug I can give...
