Thanks! Can't wait to pull off the scott russell link and replace it with a watts link. It should handle so much better.

Wish I could loan you my Cosworth heads........although you seem to have plenty of HP now. It's really great watching you push the Corvettes out of your way.

OMG yes, with a set of cams too please LOL When we started this build I didnt know what to expect or how the car would handle. With all the help we got from this board, we were able to get the car where it is today. Glad you are enjoying what the car can do!

Hah - I did install the Cosworth ZK2 cams with the heads - until I get the Greddy EU installed, I won't know what the engine will do, but the valve train is rated to 10K ! Even with the fixed 3.0 timing gears/chains (set to 0* advance) the engine is lazy until about 4,500 and then it explodes - but with a factory 6,500 fuel cut, who knows? -and, yes, the engine is fully built and balanced...

Looks like you two weren't battling, just getting held up by slower track traffic.

Its always hard to judge from video the performance of modified cars at HPDE events. Given open track with the right driver and minimal traffic those GT3s can fly, this I have witnessed in person.

Got to love that VQ sound for sure.

Wished the org had more road course people. Then the Maxima would have better off the shelf suspension parts with the bigger market.

Awesome video.....It doesn't sound like a V-6, more like a V8, good driving, I would apply power earlier leaving the corners IMO....but good driving....

I didnt post the sections of videos where I am alone but out of curtosey (sp) I waited to get on it until I noticed the cars in front of me hitting the throttle. The first part of the video shows how fast I take turn 1, compared to when I'm in traffic.

When will I get to see some Maximas out there?!

Ah ok. Your car is still alot faster than mine for sure.

If im down at VIR or NJMP next year I will let you know a couple months ahead of time. In New England I think my car is the only Maxima at HPDEs, there might be a few guys running tracks closer to you. They are Maximas out there, just not very common. I would like to check out your car and see that rear Panhard rod converstion in person.

I need to also get a new set of slicks for '11, the Nitto NT-01s are heat cycled to death. I haven't corded them yet so I think I can get away with a softer compound. I am looking at 245/40/17 or 255/40/17 Hoosier R6s or BFG R1s for dry track days. How do you like those Hoosiers? are you running the R6s or something else?

I LOVE LOVE the hoosiers. But stick with 225/40/17 if you can. There are only a tiny bit less wide, but much shorter so you'll have improved gearing. I prefer them over my 245s any day. Run them on 8" wheels or larger.

I'll be at VIR for the UTCC for sure next year, so please do drop by if you can. Most of the time I run in the SE.

BTW, we got approved for a Watts Link! I cant wait. No assemtrical (sp) issues that the panhard has. Look for that within a month.

I've been running the NT-01 235/40/17 tires on a 8.5" rim and that seemed ok. This year I bought a set of 17 x 9" rims and wanted to see what would happen to the 235s. They are a bit tight wrapped on those 9" rims so I want to goto a 245 or 255 when I buy a new set of R comps. The 245/40/17 size offers so many choices and the 255 would be a "by the book" tire fitment on a 9" rim. From what I gathered most Nissans generally handle better with wider rims on narrower tires but not an "el dorito" type stretch. Also the 245 size is still under sized on the Maxima so there would still be some gearing advantage. The 255 tire would just be a hair underneath the stock tire size height and would not make much gearing advantage.

My corner balance/alignment guy suggested the 255 size tire on 9" rims if the tires can clear the struts and fenders because the front dynamic negative gain sucks on my car. In his opinion it would benefit my camber challenged car as im losing front grip the harder I corner. Given the option of not getting enough contact on the front, go with a wider tire to help mask the problem at the expense of some steering feedback and some added slop. However he likes to run 275/40/17 tires on 9" rims with his track Mustangs.

So far from what I gathered for my car.

8" rim = 225 width tire (tested, good)
8.5" rim = 235 width tire (tested, good)
9" rim = 235 width tire (tested, not good)
9" rim = 245/255 width tire (untested)

If that panhard link setup works I would be interested in it as well. Problem is I no longer have a reliable fabricator up here. The guy making the adjustable lower control arms quit on me and I have to chase his a$$ down and get the money I gave him months ago for the ALCAs.

The Watts link uses a bell crank to evenly distribute side to side load, unlike the arc on a panhard. This is why we are going with a Watts.

The width is 9.3" v 8.9" for the 225. However going to 255/45 (lowest aspect on a Hoosier) you gain nearly 2" in height over the 245/40 and 2.5" over the 225s. That is so so bad it aint funny.
225 is 23.8" high v 26.2" on a 255. For road racing, it makes all the difference to have less sidewall and better gearing.

Dont get caught up in the 225 is too small way of thinking, Hoosier makes them much wider than you think. And they fit perfectly on a 9" wheel.

Even better, the A6s have built in CAMBER! You'll gain quite a bit running the A6s.
Good luck!

I should of mentioned that the BFG R1s are the ones with 255/40/17 tire and the A6s/R6s in 245/40/17, plus the other sizes you mentioned from Hoosier.

I like having a shorter tire but a 225/40/17 is 23.8" tall, a 4th gen Maxima has 25.2" tires stock, B15 Sentra SE-R has 24.6" tires stock. The 235/40/17 I ran were around 24.4" tall when new and I was happy with that tire height.

I used to run road courses on a 15" x 7" rim with 225/50/15 summer tires and that was 23.8" tall, but the sidewall was to thick and it looked so goofy on the car. But it was a 32 pound tire/wheel combination, lowered the car without changing the suspension geometery, and the gearing advantage was nice.

More stuff to think about over the winter...

We have a set of OBX wrapped equal length headers with a 3" collector, 24" magnaflow with a turn down. Basic system that sounds prett good.

BTW, for those who are interested, here are the Porsches: Driving in close quarters is nothing new for these guys.
