Need opinions on camming a DEK.

I'm at a crossroads now. I've got full bolt-ons and an EU hooked up and running, and I'm looking at getting cams.

I'm trying to decide between the following.

JWT S1 for VQ30 (256/256, 0.415/0.415)
JWT S1 for VQ35 (260/260, 0.428/0.428)

The S1 for VQ30 is more convenient to get ahold of. Aside from that, I'm looking to make maximum power between 4200-7200 RPM or somewhere in that range.

As far as the differences in duration/lift, what kind of change in power/delivery will I be looking at (qualitative or quantitative)?

Also, with regards to timing, since I can run the StephenMax adapters on the VQ35 cams, would it be a better choice for me to do those to fine-tune the powerband shift?

Thanks!

Yeah I'm trying to get Jeff's cams but I know another dude with the VQ30 S1s that are cheaper.

I know they have more lift, that's what my original post said.

It also comes down to where you set the intake timing with the VQ35 cams in a VQ30 engine.

Dyno2000 software shows better overall gains with the VQ30 cams with less low end loss. With the VQ35 cams there is about the same peak HP but more loss of midrange. That said it matters where the intake timing is set on VQ35 cams, I put in cam timing for when the CVTC is shut off.

Also past 0.4" lift there isn't much more flow in VQ30 heads, so that little bit of lift does not make much of a difference for power. It will put a little more stress on the valvetrain.

If I ever get around to camming a DEK I would go with the JWT VQ30 cams, but thats just me.

98SE, thanks for your thoughts. Those were the lines I was thinking along too.
