Within the next few days I will log some pulls with my EU and compare them to some logs I recorded at the track a few weeks ago. I also plan to go back to the track within a month to get some times with headers to compare to my most recent trip with the y pipe.

After installing these headers, my car is a lot quieter in normal driving than it used to be with the old y pipe and 3" exhaust. The drone zone I had at about 2100-2500 rpm is nearly gone, I can still hear a slight change if I listen for it, but otherwise I'd say its gone

One of my favorite parts, to an extent, is the cost.
Altima headers - $135
y pipe parts and labor - $114
Total spent: $249
Nice vids the last one at the bottom the best sound....

Thanks!

I am nearly finished with these headers, last thing I need is a 3" gasket. I had a 3" test pipe made and a flex section installed today.

So far it doesn't seem much louder compared to my resonated test pipe, but I will reserve judgement until I drive around with it some more.

Did you order the gaskets and flanges or did the shop have them.

I didn't take it to a shop, a friend of a friend did the welding. I bought the flanges and mandrel bends from a local muffler dealer warehouse. I used the collector gaskets that came with the headers, and reused the oem manifold gaskets. I will be ordering the 3" test pipe gasket.

Time for round two on these headers.

I got my hands on some coilovers and rode around the the y pipe 1"-1.5" off the ground. I went to a ghetto tire shop to have some tires installed. Drove the car on a lift similar to the one below and the y pipe hit the hydraulic arm. Then I drove around with the reduced volume y pipe for a month or so until I finally got around to having a new one made a few days ago.

The damage:

I decided to do away with the flanges for this y pipe since they were such a pain to get to. This time around I used the flowmaster y merge posted earlier in this thread (part #Y214300). And two band clamps on the inlets of the y merge.

My cost for this y pipe was $106. I signed up for Amazon's credit card and they gave me a $40 credit which I used to get the Flowmaster y merge for free.

Much better this time. The front pipping looks really close to the crossmember could be the angle of the pic though.

^ That happened to the flex. It doesn't leak, so I didn't replace it. The black crap is burnt epoxy.

in for sound clips. Ive had this same idea mapped out in my head for months. What size pipe did you use for the "collector"?

edit: nvm found it. Is the header touching your A/C line on the front?

I need to buy a welder before I can do that

Which part? The two 2.25" primaries merge into 3"

I'll take some clips after I fix a minor exhaust leak. 3" collector.
No but its close, about 1/8" of clearance.

mmhmm lets go with that

But cool work with the y-pipe welding. Even though the last one broke, I'm sure all in all this is still cheaper than other alternatives for header/ypipe

I have no problem admitting my mistakes. However, this was done on purpose.

Finally fixed my exhaust leak. I moved the clamps off of the merge and closer to the headers, soo much quieter now. Vids coming soon.

I think you need too do another one and use flexible tubing as a model and copy it to the T! Your transitions suck.....You've got big nuts but no juice....There gotta be a way to squeeze the U shaped tubing in there better than that!
here's some tubing specialist:

I could probably run it forward and wrap an uncut 180* bend around the front of the oil pan. Yea its not perfect, but this one is WAY better than the first one I had. I do want to switch back to flanges on the y pipe since these clamps like to loosen up over time.
But until this y pipe gets completely destroyed and I learn to weld, I have no desire to change it. My major driving factor with these headers was cause they were cheaper than OBX, but after changing the y pipe a few times I'm $500 into these headers and do not want to spend any more on them.

i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb136/deviance105/h11389.jpg So these wouldn't fit? Cause these are with an equal y pipe already... are these v2s? Cause there's a version of 3.5 headers for the altima that don't have the equal y from obx.

3rd time's a charm right?

The loop on y pipe II was much to close to my lca and the heat killed the bushing. I'm in the middle of a bunch of other maintenance right now so I figured I'd fix the y pipe. I'm doing all stainless this time.

All I have done so far is a mockup with the 2" piping that came on the altima y pipe to see if I could feasibly get the pipe away from the lca. So far so good.
