Got the manifold and engine cover back from the powder coating place. Beautiful!! The guy said he could not get good in between the runnders and that is why its a bit light. He asked if I wanted him to do it over again and try to get in....I told him that it was fine as is. $125 for both. Stripped, sparkle silver base and candy blue coat over the top. Fantastic price! Gonna look real sexy under that hood!!

Got my LED lights in and decided to put there in the gauge cluster along with a brushed aluminum gauge bezel I bought! I didn't get a pic of the bezel in the day so you can see the brushed aluminum but it looks really SWEET!! Here are pics of the gauge cluster cool white LEDs VERY VERY nice! Catch myself staring more at the cluster now instead of the road because it's so dam SEXY....

Gauge cluster out (If anyone can tell me where to get a new plastic cover for the gauge cluster it would be appreciated because mine is all scratched and nicked up):

At Night gauge cluster lit with new Cool white LEDs:

Also while I was at it I replaced the cabin air filter and did some maintenance on the blower because of the noises I get at times (took it out and wiped it down, etc).....old filter was disgusting:

OLD filter:

New Filter:

Both side by side (for comparison):

I notice that the air is much smoother in the car and the blower doesn't make those crazy noises anymore either.

Tomorrow going to clean the car out a little bit in the trunk and glove compartment so the shop can move battery to back and not have to worry about the trash back there and install the Haltech in Glove compartment.

Nice progress bro, get your calipers powdercoated the same color as your manifold and engine cover. If you do red it won't be right imo go along with one color theme. I'm not a fan of that aluminum dash kit its just too much aluminum especially in the center console area and around the temp controls.

Looks very, very good! As for the light areas in the runners, its called the "faraday cage effect". The tight areas , because of the way the powder is applied, actually repells the powder. To overcome this the part just needs to be pre heated and allowed to cool a lil, but not below room temp. Also turn off the static charge of the gun, and allow the powder to "gravity' fill the tight areas 1st, then static chage and apply everywhere else normally. Cant wait for pics...ive been watching this thread for some time and cant wait to post up some pics after I am done coating some parts in my engine bay. I really like the color choice.

Thats actually a good suggestion about the brakes. I never really thought about any other color than red because that is what I usually see calipers painted as. Thanks for the suggestion man!! As far as the aluminum!! YEAH man!! Lots of Aluminum...lol.

DAM....I should have sent the manifold to you to powdercoat...lol. Nah, its OK and I don't think its really that bad at all. Thanks for the comments. Gonna powdercoat the upper radiator mounts and that mount that holds the hood sensor as well. I need to look at the bay and see what else I want to powdercoat.....might do that front coolant line too, depends on how I can visualize that...LOL.

Next week its going to get VERY interesting up in this thread AND the dyno section!

You actually have alot of different options with your calipers. Are you doing front and back or just the fronts? Let us know what they charge you for the brake calipers. Perhaps will be more if they do the job correctly only because you have to remove the piston, all seals, and other brake screws/bolts, in order to blast off the rust and other contaminates. Afterwards though, man, they will last a very long time!

Yeah I did exactly what you told me too as far as bending the front and it fits. It only rubs the upper radiator hose a bit......going to figure that out, but dont think its a big issue.

Yeah, I was actually going to buy all new calipers for all 4 wheels. Those calipers are OLD and I wont have to take the old ones off and have to pay someone to disassemble them because I can just disassemble the new ones and send them off for coating while still driving. then once they are done I can reassemble them and install them.

just read that you're planning on getting injectors.

you should check out the injectors that i have

they're mustang gt500 injectors...rated at ~580cc

i paid 230 for them BRAND NEW from a mustang website.

youll need to splice in some ev6 connectors though

DANG.....I already bought the 650cc injectors. They are installing them at the shop to prepare for the turbo. If I had know about that I would have considered buying them from that mustang site. However the ones that I have are just straight plug and play VQ35DE injectors with no splicing needed.

Do you mind sharing a link where you got them? I picked up a set of 470cc mustang injectors from a friend of a friend, that I am currently running, but plan on increasing boost and need to upgrade.

Well the car is still not done. I'm thinking it will be done sometime next week. The only thing is that I will be out of town for a seminar for my job the entire week so I will not be able to pick the car up until NEXT week. I wanted to be able to film dyno. The guys at the shop said they have someone that films all the dynos and post them on their BLOG site, but I want my own. I'll probably have them throw it on the dyno when I go to pick it up to show them dynoing the car and the numbers as they pop up. BUT when they call me and let me know the car is ready I will ask whe the peak numbers were. I can get him to email me the run files so that I can view and post them. But until then.......just have to wait.

Looks great....I learned the hard way on my FSTB to use washers with high torque bolts as it cut the powdercoat finish....

Lol, yeah sometimes this gets overlooked, however its pretty important. Nylon or phenolic washers work great.

Yeah, after the turbo that would not even be a fair race...lol. I would love to see what it could against the STi after the IM, and Haltech tune though...that would be good, especially since I heard they tuned it up some more since our last meet.

Got an update. Car is still not done but I went down to the shop as I was making my way down to Virginia and this is what is going on.

They have the battery relocated to the trunk in a nice metal box, the new 6th gen front and rear valve covers on, the injectors, and custom manifold with 2009 TB on, also the Haltech is installed in glove box and wired all up.

They still have to weld bungs for the O2 sensors, make custom intake piping and install intake air temp sensor and tune. They forgot to tell the person working on my car to install the one step colder plugs but they will just install those when I get the turbo done, no harm no foul. After that its on!!

I also sat down and discussed my turbo build with them and ordered EVERYTHING that I needed for the build. I got the precision 6266 dual ball bearing turbo, Tial BOV (the loud one..in blue), Tial Wastegate (blue), ksport boost gauge (mechanical..with blue light background) and front intercooler. I'm going to take the car in to get tuned after I come from Honda Day in NJ in April. He says it'll be ready in 2 weeks....I'm going to tack on another week and say 3 because I see how busy they are getting. Also inquired about a brand new paint job...same color, we'll see. Here are some pics:

ENGINE BAY (So far):

CLOSE UP pf brand new 6th gen valve cover:

Haltech dual wideband controller in engine bay:

Precision 650cc Injectors:

Custom Intake Manifold with 2009 Maxima Throttle Body:

Battery Relocated to Trunk:

Haltech Dual A/F ratio gauge:

Haltech Platinum Pro in Glove Box:

ALSO

I spoke about boost levels and everything to the shop and we decided to do the stock wastegate at 5.5 PSI and then add a manual boost controller to turn boost up to 7PSI. He said I could turn it up but being that its a stock block he would not go higher than that. He said a stock 350z greddy kit they did made 350whp on the dyno..he said EVERYTHING was stock on the z, intake manifold, even stock exhaust.....and it still did 350whp. He said with everything I got done to the car that it will make a little over 400whp with 7PSI and a little less around 370ish on 5.5PSI. Says I should have full boost around 3200-3500rpm all the way to redline!! So thats more than enough for me!!! I found a neat video on youtube that shows the difference in Precision journal bearing turbos and dual ball bearing turbos. Here it is:

The car will definitely be done this week. Get ready for those numbers!!!!!!! Cmon 290...cmon 290!!!!! I believe I can fly, I believe I can touch the sky!!!!

The glove box haltech install is money.

I'm very interested to see what numbers this thing pulls.

Also you might want to do something about where the cables go through the battery box. It looks like those grommets are just held in place by the wires themselves. Plastic bulkheads would be better.

Question: Why the 6th gen valve covers? Thats just cause the leak less than the 5.5 right?

Car looks good, I like the clean install. Not many places do custom installs like this. Where is the shop located?

yup!!! Also 5.5 gen covers known to have a flaw in the seals for the spark plugs. They fixed the problem with 6th gen covers. When they took mine off they did not see any problems. But its best to be safe than sorry later. They were cheap anyway so I said replace them!!
