tranny swap

I have a 96 max auto. My brother in law has a 00 max 5speed he just bought and is going to replace the clutch. Now he wants to convert his 5 speed to auto and I wanna convert my auto to 5 speed. We are deciding to trade but my question is about converting 5speed to auto. Will it be just plug and play??? There are a bunch of write up for auto to 5speed swap but not the opposite that I have searched. I dont know if the wiring will be the same or not. Sorry forgot to mention that I have a 2000 motor swapped in the 96 max bought it like that. Any help would be great thanks.

not worth the hassel of wiring in TCM at all. its alot of work and you need a good understanding of how an moder auto tranny works. gotta be good w/ wiring schematic. suprastick might be an option for you but still.

Much better if you trade cars and work the price differance. Auto to stick is easy but stick to auto alot is completly diff game

Converting an auto to 5spd is easier than the other way around. Plus you couldn't swap ECUs either between those two cars. 4th gen, 1999 4th gen, and 5th gen ECUs are NOT compatible with each other.

I wouldn't convert to the 5spd, they're not reliable and you get worse MPG. 6spd is a different story though. The only thing better about the 5spd over the auto is acceleration/fun.

the way I see it, done right, it doesn't matter if you got auto-5spd or vise versa. You still have to swap the tranny/flywheels, engine harness, ecu, guage cluster, shifter with cables/links, pedals, brake booster w/cylinder, center console trim and interior harness. Thats not including dealing possibly ignition switch and dealing with NATS if your max is 99+ year.

Unless you have ample time and know how, just forget about it. Sell the car and buy another one.

You can do anything as long as you have time and money....granted if you do it yourself it'll give you migraines until it's done but at least in the end you're happy....that's if you at least have the correct parts....
