Smile Vq30de race boat performance upgrade ideas

Hey Guys

I am running a vq30de in a flat bottom race boat and looking for more hp, I can go mad with what ever works best as long as the engine remains under 3l and N/a.

Been trying to search for info to assist but nothing really concrete and looks like the internals are fine and all the power increases are though the heads and intakes.

Now this is where im scratching my head as whats available to achieve the best hp for price, I've seen Mevi intakes , 00vi intakes and Evan itbs from vq35 which im sure they will bolt to the heads, But what is going to give me the best result. I am currently running the stock ecu but stand alone system is not out of the question if itbs are the way to go. And since there is no bonnet to worry about the intake can be as high as necessary.

Also what cams should I look for and is getting heads ported and polished worth the cost?

If any one has any Ideas would appreciate it

heads are the weak point IMO

ITB's + porting of heads + new valvetrain (cams and Ti parts from the VK45) + tune from a standalone should get you a good amount of power.

Cheers

Was hoping someone would recommend the itbs as they look sweet aswell wen fitted

Can the cams from a vk45 work? or do you have to get them shortened to fit to suit the 6 from a 8? and sorry Ti parts?

That boat is so cool..... If you want to leave the lower end alone, think about the heads, cams and upper intake manifolds from a 350Z. Actually JWT cams (maybe C9s ?) for a 3.0 would probably be a direct install for the existing 3.0 timing gears and chains and fit the 3.5 heads.... ???

And maybe you could sneak a little nitrous in there somewhere ???

Unfortunately not allowed nutritious haha would get busted at scrutineering

Yeah seen the jwt cams that are available, Would fitting 3.5 heads raise it above 3ltr? as need to keep it under that for our class.

Cheers

Put an SSIM on there.

It has shown great gains.
Better than the oovi swap.
You will need to swap out the lim as well.
I'll see if I can dig up the thread.

Nope - the bore and stroke of the block determines displacement. Heads are a different subject. 3.5 heads have intake ports that will work with either FWD 2002-2008 Maxima intake manifolds or 2003-2008 RWD 3.5 L 350Zs + Nissans/Infinitis. The FWD aluminum intakes can be modded (like the SSIM which guts the plenum for top-end) or with some head porting can use the 2007->up plastic manifolds and LIMs. Larger TBs are used as well. I've done them all.

Nitrous would trump them all, but.....

Here's a long thread of mine with lots of pixs of lots of mods:

What 3.5ltr heads work the best? or are all the nissan 3.5ltr heads the same over the years? apart from the cosworth versions

Would SSIM show greater gains than itbs? with standalone ecu

Nice boat!

I had thought VQ35 heads on a VQ30 lowers the compression ratio, so wouldn't that adversely affect N/A power?

I'd go with cams, headwork, and itbs or an SSIM and tune it with an emanage ultimate.

You make a valid point on the compression ratio. I hope that it would increase with vq35 heads but decreasing could be a possibility.

Cheers for posting

After a bit of reasearch the vq35 heads will lower compression would be great if I was aloud to run turbos

Compression ratio is overrated. Breathing is more important, IMHO. Remember always that an engine is a giant air pump, and breathing is the gateway to horsepower. With the 3.5 heads and available factory intake manifolds and throttle bodies, you can make stupid HP with stock parts.

Think about the 2010 Maxima heads, intake manifolds, and TB mounted on a 3.0 block. Cams optional...

I would really like to see photos of the workings of your boat. All that mechanical stuff that this forum.likes to see...

I totally agree that breathing is important! but looking into it if 3.5ltr heads main advantage is to be able to utilise other intake options then why not stick with 30 heads and custom a intake that will let me run the higher compresson like this http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-b9DZXpDmPx...0/Manifold.jpg

I would make it out of alloy but since I don't need to worry about height like you guys It would be a option that would suit. Ported and polished heads and cams also. The boat will be getting pulled apart so will post photos of how it all goes together.

Because VQ35 heads have vastly superior flow and cooling design. Maybe you can get ported VQ30 heads to flow as well as stock VQ35 heads, or even as well as ported VQ35 heads if money is no factor, but as far as the stock parts are concerned, the VQ35 heads are better. I don't remember the numbers off the top of my head, but my semi-educated hunch is that the increase in flow from VQ35 heads would outweigh the reduced compression. I can't remember if anyone has ever tested that though - my memorization of this sort of thing like I did years ago has fallen off in recent years. If you start modifying the heads though, all that might go out the window.

vq35 heads

and vk45 pistons

if the valves dont hit it will get you your compression back.

search for vq32de and vq33de threads; we used to talk about it back then

vq35 manifold..or a vq30det manifold.. equal length, step up headers..custom, wisaco 11-to 1 or 12 -1 on a biggest cam supertech valve springs 5 angelvalve job under cut vales arp rod bolts head studs and on that emanage... youll make at least like 300 -340 depending on the tune.. fuel used oh and a nice big ram air

how intensely are your tech inspectors going to be looking at things? it wouldn't be too hard to make a VQ35 look like a VQ30 to the untrained or partially trained eye, and if you really wanted to, you could make it virtually indistinguishable...

i'm not sayin, i'm just sayin.
