At what rpm should I set a high stall converter?

My transmission is starting to slip in my auto 98 Maxima daily driver that's supercharged.

I plan to install an I30t auto VLSD tranny into it, upgrade the valve body, and have a high stall torque converter installed. Yes, I'm aware I need the driver's side axle too.

I do plan to take this car to the 1/4 track once in a while, but it's primarily my daily driver for the time being.

So, what RPM should I have it set to, and why?

Any other suggestions of what I need to have done to the new transmission going in?

Thanks!

I believe the stock TC is set at 2000-2200rpm

I've been in a ~2800 stall built Auto trans max many years ago. You could torque brake and launch at 2800.

I was in the car for only a short drive, but it seemed like you had to give it a bit more gas to get it going.

i.e. if you put stock MAX into drive with brake off, the car will begin moving forward.
With high stall TC it doesn't, you have to press the gas pedal to get it going, and it would actually roll back on a hill if not holding the brake.

Sorry wish I could give you more, but I was in the car for only a short drive, and I wasn't the one driving it, so I can't fully relate the experience.
Everything else is 5MT/6MT.

one more thing to add: if you're going to be replacing the trans, make sure you get a new Shift Solenoid from nissan (~$140) - it's the part that does the shifting inside the trans, if you're replacing the valve body, it will be very easy to get to: it will make the shifts feel quick and crisp.

if you're opening up the cases. Differential bearings are fairly easy to get to as well: but that depends on donor mileage

hope that helps.

I would PM Aaron from NWP as he has a High Stall TC and he daily drived the car too

That does help! Helps quit a bit actually. Thank you.

I had no idea that there could potentially be negative side effects, like putting the car in Drive and it won't start moving forward (and would roll backwards on a hill).

I was thinking of a 4000rpm high stall initially...

I think the Shift solenoid is dying and causing all my issues, and thus the reason that inspired the VSLD transmission swap.

I will PM Aaron and ask him to chime in here. Thanks for the advice.

4000 would eat through ALOT of gas. For "once in a while" I would only go 2500.

2500-2800

3000+ is overkill for city (so I've been told)
