6mt swap question

6mt swap question
Greetings .org members. My transmission was on its way out and was in need of a rebuild. Instead of rebuilding it, I decided to swap in a 6 speed. The swap was successful, however my only problem is not having any reverse lights. Is there a solution to this problem other than wiring up a separate switch I'll have to flip every time I back up? I've searched and read all the threads covering this swap, and I didn't see any of them addressing this issue. Am I not looking in the right places or is the fix really not discussed? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Did you use the auto transmission vehicle harness??
I am going to go ahead and assume you did, as the 6mt harness has the reverse switch built in.
If you are using the auto harness you'll have to splice out the reverse wire on the pnp switch of the auto trans harness. I believe its the green/white wire. That wire needs to go to the reverse switch on the 6spd trans and you'll need to create a ground for that sensor as well. note: if you don't have the sensor plug you'll need to go to the junk yard and find one.
I think that should be it. BUT I can't remember for the life of my whether it gets the signal from the trans PNP switch OR the gear selector. I believe that its the pnp switch BUT I could be wrong.

The was originally a 5 speed. The neutral back up switch/plug on the 5 speed was a four prong, but from what I can see the sensor on the 6 speed is a two prong.
I still have the switch that came off the 5 speed, I'll look and see if there is a green/white wire. if so, you're saying to connect that wire to one of the prongs on the 6 speed sensor and ground the other prong?

ohhhh I apologize for the confusion... MOSTLY on my part hahaha.
Reverse on the MT of the 5 speed is wire 1 and 3. Splice those and connect them to your new six speed and you should have working reverse lights. I can get the wire colours if need be.
It's MT-8 of the FSM.
