Cams, Pistons, and Rods

I'm Building a VQ30de-k engine and i was reading on another thread that i could use cams from a 3.5l maxima and a 350z? is this true? if so what would i need to be able to run these? do they bolt up with no problems or do i need some type of adapter?

also, I'm planning on going with a higher compression ration. will i be able to run stock internals with a higher compression ration or will it be unsafe?

last question. i found this http://www.importperformanceparts.ne...ek-nissan.html 'look at #13' has anyone had any experience with these? anything to watch out for? hate to buy something and find out its unreliable.]

Thanks! hope to learn a lot from this thread!

from what I understand, the cams have to have the pin moved 180 deg, not for sure on that, as far as the rest rods you don't have much choice, no one makes a off the shelf set, they have to be custom made, I have found a place that will do it, if you seriously want them I will be contacting him soon, with out them you are limited to about 500hp if you have a good tune. As far as the kit if you notice it doesn't include rods and not sure what the bearing would be like, I have heard your better going off with the nissan ones since they are some of the highest quality true tri metal and such.

VQ35 cams will need an adapter. PM me if you'd like to purchase a set of adapters.

for what you'll be spending on doing all that to a DE-K, you'll get better overall results (esp more torque everywhere) from a hydrid 3.5L swap with 3.0L timing.

3.5L will always own 3.0L because of that TQ and aftermarket support.

and if you build the 3.5L and boost it.. then your transmission's the limit..

I've been running a 3.5L in my 96 since '07.. nowadays with nistune, and a lot more fresher blocks with aftermarket support, you can do much better.

if you have a 00-01 and you're really serious - you can convert to a early 95 ECU with harness and run a codeless emissions + boost friendly swap. (you will lose the chip in the key immobilizer bullsh!t)

all depends on what you want at the end of the day..

@vipervadim i would love to do a 3.5L swap but i already pulled an engine out of a car to use and then i found all of this information on 3.5L swaps.. (lesson learned) but im still interested in building the 3.0 because I've heard i can take parts from a 3.5L and still make a good amount of power.

i was also going to be going all motor, going turbo would be nice but, id like to do something a little different, and hopefully make something with a decent amount of power. i kind of like the idea of the 95 ecu with harness. because i hate the chip in the key crap.

thanks for your information, very informative!

if you want to stick with the 30 block but are still going to do a higher HP build you might want to go to a 35 crank that way you can get rods easy, so you would have a 3.3, as far as the wiring these days you can do a 3.5 and not have to worry about the NATS system by having it deactivated and the wiring harness trimmed down, I think there are a few places that do it now, I would stay away from Fever Racing, I went though them and it seems everything I got from them is messed up one way or another, I haven't got to the point of working on the wiring yet so not sure how that is but it did take them 7 months for them to get it to me after I had it paid for, according to emails my ECU has been tuned about 3 times already......

you might be able to do the harness your self if you are decent with wiring, then you can just get the Osiris system if you want to run a newer ecu then what nistune does....
