Seat swap
Seat swap
I need some opinions on this. I got a driver, and passenger front seat out of a 2003 I35, and I put them in my 2000 maxima. The passenger seat hooked up perfectly, but the since the driver seat has the memory seats the connectors are different. Should I rewire the connectors, or swap motors from my old seats? Not sure all what to do from here. Any feed back is appreciated. Thanks.
Since you got A GLE you got side air bags right? , so you might wanna keep that airbag light off by keeping that seat....keep old seat and just swap the leather or cloth from new one, but be careful and take ur time cause it will rip, start from underneath.....if you had heated seats remove the pads gently and don't rip them and put them in the where ever you like ....they heat well on cloth seats...fire hot lol. What did you do with the passenger side airbag?
The GLE is the least expensive model and I bet it doesn't have side air bags. As for the wiring, it is the switches in the seat that need to be swapped, not the motors. But I don't know if the switches from the old seat will fit into the new seat.
I have an 00 GLE and it doesn't have the side airbags so I guess it was an option. My loaded 02 SE doesn't have them either. It's got the leather and roof but no heated seats or side airbags.
Problem with swapping seats when you have air bags in them is that you will have to remove the airbags from the old seats for those of you with them ....or live with no airbags at all everywhere.....it will set off A code which sucks and disable them all, (if you do plan to remove them)wait ten min at least after you disconnect the battery.....but if you're crafty you can have side airbags in the new seats and heat and all like me lol...took some work but it works.
Thanks for the feedback guys. I do not have air bags in my stock seat. There was no yellow connector for it. However the new seats have them but I just can't connect them. Is there a wiring diagram on the FSM for the seat power connectors? Thanks
for the 2000 Maxima, see page 187 -

For the 2003 i35, for the memory seat see page 222
For the 2003 i35, for the non-memory seat see page 251 (same as 2K Max)

It seems that I was wrong about the electric motors being the same. They are different for the memory seat.

Apart from the yellow connector, how can I tell whether I have airbags in the seat?
Can I physically swap cushions? How about seatbacks?
Can I swap the entire seat?
I appreciate all/any advice.
One way you can find out if you have side air bags is by looking at the air bag controller. There 2 different controllers, one for no side air bags and one for with side air bags. If the controller has 1 wire harness plug, it is for the no side air bags. If there are 2 wire harness plugs, then it is for side air bags.
The controller is mounted on the floor beneath the center console, towards the rear.
A seat with side air bags has a bigger, puffier looking side panel that wraps around you more than the no air bag seat. But unless you have seen the two different kinds of seats, what I just said doesn't help much. Looking for a wire harness that goes up the side of the seat is more realistic.
I really don't know about swapping the seats left and right. The power seat buttons would be towards the console after a swap. I suppose that is a simple swap, but I would not stake my life on that.
I was looking at part numbers for the bare seat frame, no cushions just the metal frame. The left and right seats have different part numbers, for both the butt part and the back part. This makes me think that swapping may not work.

Great input, thanks Dennis.
I am now reasonably sure I don't have side airbags. I also suspect it's beyond my desire & skill to swap the seatbacks. So, the only question is: Do I want to bother with replacing the seat cushion? I have to think about it a bit more ..... .

I seen a thread here where where a guy swaps manual rails onto 350z seats, and another member was able to keep all his options on his i30 by just swapping the azz and backrest cushions..https://maxima.org/forums/5th-genera...-5-5-5gen.html
