Alright, this is simple to get info. I know for a fact the JL is a Class D amp and puts out over 600 from 1.5-4ohms. I know the JBL puts out 1200x1 at 2ohms.

Now what I dont know is that is the JBL number true? I mean I know people who have the 500/1 JL who push over Four 12W3s and hit 140dbs. I just dont know if the JBL has that ability.

I also hear the JBL is Class D, but I think that is misleading or incorrect cause it draws almost 114amps, no way a Class D can grab that much power.

What yall think is better in not considering the price. Just purely which one is better to run two 10s that are 4ohms and are MTX Thunder8000s or 10W3s or similar subs.

I can't give you a definitive answer because I haven't experienced JBLs amps personally. But some of the more audiophile-ish guys on here have made remarks about the quality of their amps. I can't go in any deeper on this - I'd tell you to search for JBL, but of course, that's not allowed with this search engine *grumble*

I *can* tell you that I've been very pleased with my 500/1 in the week it's been operating. In the 100-degree days this week, without air conditioning and simply the pass-through window open to the trunk, it hasn't overheated....the longest drive I've taken was about 30 min, but still....plus, it has attractive features such as auto-load sensing, (minimal) bass eq controls, > 500 @ 4 ohms dampening factor, etc.

I can't complain. It's a little more functional/better than my ESX Q1752, which is a pretty good (albeit not class-D) amp to begin with.
