Help! Plug Adapter For 2K2 Bose Amp

I would like to replace the Bose amplifier and speakers in my 2K2. I do not want to re-wire the system. I want to tap into the plug connected to the amplifier. I know I can do this with "crimp on" style connectors, but I would really prefer I female plug which will connect directly onto the existing plug in the stock wiring harness. Does anyone know where I can find/buy one? Thanks!

I think you have to worry about what each wire on the car is....like which wire is power, ground, positive, negative and for which speaker. If you ahve that information, then you can do the rewiring.

looking for the same adapter

ABS-- I have been looking around for the same adapter to do the same thing you're trying to do. I haven't been able to find one either. I was actually thinking of trying to find a BOSE amplifier to take apart to get the plastic female part to make my own adapter! But I dont feel like paying hundreds of dollars to just rip apart for one small plastic piece... I saw a picture of an install in a BMW once where an installer used blade terminals and cable ties to "hack" the harness. maybe i'll try the same thing...

I've never seen that before. I do believe it might be possible for us to manually construct something similar, although it would take lots of time and energy to do so. By the way, I haven't pulled the plug recently, but I think the adapter on the harness might be female and the connector in the Bose Amp has the male blades in it. If this is the case, it could add some complexity . . . we would have to use male instead of female spade connectors . . .

It's too bad we can't figure out who sells Nissan that adapter, then we could just purchase the plug we need.

Unfortunately, I'm in the middle of moving to Queens, so I won't have a chance to call AMP for a little while. If/when I call, I'll post an update if they tell me that they have a part which looks promising.

Just out of curiosity, why do you think AMP makes this part? I remember looking for markings, etc., and finding none.

I'm doing the same thing. I just setup an account with PAC, we'll see how well their interface works by the end of next week.

I am surprised by your comment, I know that PAC sells line level converters, but I do not believe that is the same part we are considering here. We are looking to plug into the stock harness, at the amplifier in the trunk, to get power, pre-amp signals and speaker connections to an aftermarket amp. The PAC will take speaker level outputs from the Bose amplifier and then cut the levels down to pre-amp levels. This is not the preferred method since lots of noise and distortion can be added to the signal by amplifying in the Bose, then cutting down output, then re-amplifying.

If PAC has some new product though, I would love to hear all about it.

Thanks!

The PAC interface takes the balanced pre amp output from the Bose HU and converts it to an unbalanced pre amp output via traditional RCA's. To my knowlege the Bose HU does have speaker level output. All of the speakers that are in a Bose system are terminated at the bose amp in the trunk, not at the HU. I'll have my system setup by the end of the weekend. I'll let you all know how it sounds.

Cobymoby,

I am familiar with the converter that you are describing. I believe this one uses a transformer to alter the signal from the HU. I would be surprised if this does not negatively impact the quality of your pre-amp signal in some way. To the best of my knowledge, all the 5th gens have the Bose Amp in the trunk, fed by pre-amp signals from the HU. I also understand that it should be possible to run the pre-amp signal from the HU directly into the pre-amp inputs on your aftermarket amplifier without any particular adapter. You might want to try it this way first and see how it works. If it's good, then you won't even need that PAC unit.

Good luck with your upgrades and let us know how it turns out!

Here's what you need. Nothing else is needed to get RCA outputs from the Bose deck. As I said before, this interface takes the Balanced preamp level signal and converts it. I was going to do what you are thinking about, making your own RCA's out of the HU's but it is a balanced siganl. This PAC unit saved me hours of time searching through the service manual and poking with my voltmeter.

I picked up a case of these because I know that a lot of you will need these. I have eight available for $65 each kit. This comes with the AOEM1 unit plus the NIS2 and ADD-RCA harnesses.

Herre's the link to the pictures.
