amp is over heating neway to cool it down?

its about 100 degrees outside and i have my amp in the trunk. for the last day or two ive been driving a lot and i always listen to music loud. After a while the amp just shuts off becuase it over heats and when i touch the amp it burns my hand. i got my 5 channel powering my whole system including my sub. is there a way to put cooling fans or something to cool this suker down ?

I am having the same problems.. its funny because my system when it was in my mazda never overheated in the hottest temperatures..

I have a hypothesis..

I believe your amp may be improperly grounded..

When amps are improperly grounded, your amp heats up faster and hotter because of insufficient current..

I haven't fixed mine yet (TOO LAZY) buti suggest you look there..

Please also provide the amp model, and what impedence (OHMS) you are running on the amp..

stuff to buy:

x2 or x3 5 1/4" DC brushless cooling fans (RadioShack $15 each)
x1 Bosch 12v Relay (BestBuy $12.99)
x1 tube of clear silicone (HomeDepot $5)

Relay wiring diagram for fans

87(yellow wire)= output to amp remote turn on and power to cooling fans
30(blue wire)= 12 volt input (from fuse or distribution block)
85(white wire)= Ground
86(black wire) = remote turn on INPUT (blue wire from your radio)

then use small dabs of silicone on each corner of the fans and place them evenly across the fins of the amp.

COOLING FANS = HAPPY AND COOL AMP

Yes there are fan's and full on a/c setups you can do...But which you get or what you need or how to set it up all depends on your current situation.

this is tru.

Also keep in mind, you should ba able to pin your radio all the way up and NOT have anything distort.

re

another reason amps overheat is the gauge of power wire and ground if you are using 8gauge you might want to try 4gauge for your power and ground. by incresing the gauge and conductivity of the wire you will cut down on the resistance which in turn will allow your amp to work easier and produce more power and run cooler. also go over and check all your connections, your stereo is only as good as your weakest link

What about when the headunit distorts from turning it up too high?

Re: amp is over heating neway to cool it down?

I was afraid my amp would overheat (hasn't done it yet..) so I installed a mini rocker switch in my dash that would allow me to cut the amp & subs while the rest of the system still blazed away...this is nice cause everything else is still the stock bose which sounds okay even without the subs. Check out this custom van sales site. . This is where I bought the mini rocker that fit right into one of the little dash place holder things.
