Can I run 2 amps off a single 8 Gauge pwr wire?

Can I run 2 amps off a single 8 Gauge pwr wire? I added my sub amp last weekend, and may now add an amp fo rfront stage. THe RMS ratings on the amps are 100x2 for the RF Punch 200ix (cannot remember the amp draw) and 25x2 for the other amp I am considering (RF 100a2). I already ran the 8 gauge and NOW decide that I might want to add the 2nd amp. Will I be okay, or do I need to run either a second pwr wire, or rerun the pwr cable w/ 4 gauge?

And if the single 8 is not enough, would you just add a second small run, or would you replace w/ 4 gauge IF you were not looking to show or compete?

I would rerun the wire in 4guage. with 8 you probably would not get the proper voltage to your amps and they would clip like hell, amongst other things. Oh alll of that is unless you by a cheapo amp which at that point whats the sense .

What if I made a second run w/ another 8 gauge?

The reason being that I can get the proper amount of 8 for under $20, while the necessary length of 4 gauge will be at least 40, if not more.

Anyone have a run of 4 gauge wire that they want to let go for cheap?

Rerun 4 to a fused d block and split it out to the 2 amps from there in 8 if you have to, but keep it 4 if you can. Somtimes being cheap aint' worth it...You bought they amps right? Why be cheap now?

For simplicity and cost's sake, in my old car I ran two 8 gauge power wires to 2 small amps. One for my sub amp and the other to my amp for my components.

Worked fine...no problems.

Yes it will work fine, but it is completely unnecessary, and time consuming....

I suppose that depends on how/what you're doing. It was actually less time consuming for me to do it this way.

Since youre only going to be pushing about 250-300 watts it shouldn't be a big deal to run both amps off the 8 Gauge wire. I had a 700 watt amp running 8 guage wire and it worked fine. Just get a distribution block and split the wires from there.

I agree, those two amps combined aren't anywhere near enough to justify 4 gauge.

Re: Can I run 2 amps off a single 8 Gauge pwr wire?

I think since you already have the one 8g wire run, you should go ahead and run a second 8g for the second amp. I don't think you need to pull out the one you have already, run a new 4g and then set up a block to run the 8g wires to the 2 amps,,,etc....

I personally have a 4 channel Alpine amp, and a JL Audio 250/1 each on a 8g of it's own, and I haven't had any problems with either. I am not trying to blow out any of my speakers, or trying to win any contests, so if that's your MO, you should be OK too.

By NO means would I suggest running 2 amps off of the one 8g wire.

Just my $.02 though,,,,DMAN
