engineering project... "carputer"
engineering project... "carputer"
Hi guys, i posted a couple days ago about building a computer in my car for my own self and for an engineering project (class). Thanks for everyone that gave me the great input. I'm posting again about this project because i've changed a couple things and so far this is what i've got:
Computer:
-P1-233mHz
-Mobo w/ built in audio/video... great part about it is it has a built in TV-OUT and S-Video OUT ($0 -free from work)
-32 megs of ram (I will get more RAM and max it to 128 megs... only problem *for all u computer ppl* that it's EDO memory and it's a ***** to find... so far i've found some used for $16 a peice [32meg stick] )
-10 gig hdd
-CD-ROM and Floppy (I will need to buy a DVD player soon)
Software:
-Windows 98-SE (I wish i knew how to setup Linux... that'd be perfect for me... i picked 98 because of the ****ty specs of the processor and also it has a decent boot-up speed)
-Winamp 2.8 (When i get more ram, I hope it can handle Winamp3)
-Windows Media player 7.xx
-DivX
LCD:
I bought a 5" Intec PS1 LCD for ($50)
SPECS:
·built-in stereo speakers
·Power, screen controls & ear phone jack
·Has AV and S-Video inputs and AV Multi Out on back
·Includes car adapter
Accessories:
Creative Wireless winamp remote control ($7)
----------
Now, the next (i hope last) required thing i need is the Power inverter... that will allow me to plug the computer into the 12V DC. Can anyone recommend me a good one?
After acquiring all the parts, i need to figure out how to connect the audio to the Bose system. Anyone w/ any ideas? Thanks for any feedback you can give me

that's a website i put up a year or two ago when i had the mp3 carputer in my car. it was awesome when i had it but got to be too much maintenance and upkeep. i think what made me do it and be so passionate about it was that everyone kept telling me i couldn't.
also being the first max that i know of with a carputer was cool too.
anyway... inverter - i used one i bought from costco for like $30. i hardwired it to the battery (both + and - as per directions) and it worked like a champ.
if you have any other questions email me and i can try and help. i've worked all the bugs out too many times!
