Re: HEY- does DYNMAT work?

Our main problem with rattles is the trunk Lid. Dynamat is not very effective in this area, because it's hollow. The best way I've found to sound deaden the trunk in our cars is to dynamat (or dynamat substitute, whatever) everything on the inside of the trunk, and then use a spray-foam style sound deadener on the lid.

this'll get moved to the audio forum anyways.

I have bought dynamat many years ago for my first car (89 celica) and omg, that stuff is perfect. My car complete interior was practically lined w/ it. I had a killer sound system, and with it on, you can't hear it outside at all.

If you're gonna get dynamat, line the doors too w/ it so outside road noise will be minimized as well. Let us know how much you find dynmatat for, i'm really inteterested in gettin it. Don't forget, there are alternatives to Dynamat... i'm not sure of all of em, but there's stuff like eDead and raammat. You sometimes see discounts in the group deal forum. Good luck.

Ive got dynamat in my trunk and it works pretty well, but it doesnt completely eliminate all rattles. I could definately notice a difference after dynamatting but i think i could slap a few more pieces in a few other areas.

dynamat is very thin, yet it does alot to isolate vibrations - what is it made out of exactly??

what would happen if you covered your car in that? like behind door panels, under all carpet and seats...or is it just to reduce rattling?

You can do as much of the car as you want..

Yes, it works. Yes, it's expensive... Yes, it stinks the first few weeks of summer (unless you get the foil backed stuff like I used) but is it worth it? YES.

check the .mpg at the bottom of the list for a comparo. guess which door has dynamat on it.

Half off is still pretty expensive .. I used b-quiet and still have about 10^3' of it lying around in my apartment. Very good for floors/flat parts. Not so good for vertical / upside down stuff. The adhesive isn't strong enough.

sure.. anybody can do it with bondo, but that's easy.

don't worry, there's gonna be some in my left rear corner soon too.. some ba$$tard hit me in the school parking lot and left his signature on the corner. now if only I could find who has a black bumper with red paint on it.....

DynaMat extreme is tha $hit. The original stuff is simply OK. I did my entire trunk, and it definately helps. I still need to do my rear deck lid, and back of the license plate. the stuff is amazing.

Re: Extreme

I used dynamat on my 5th gen and I got rid of all of my rattle inside of the car. Here is a link to the things that I did when I dynamatted.

I have Ultra on the trunk lid, and extreme and reg throughout the trunk. Very little rattle. Only thing you hear is the air vent in the trunk, when the air moves over it.

It works but you shouldn't buy the brand name "Dynamat" when there are other much cheaper alternatives available. I have some pictures in my homepage.

dynamat extreme

I used dynamat Extreme throughout my car. It helped TONS!. I used two layers on the trunk lid, and it actually did work very well, to my surprise. I also did the back license plate, and the front door panels for about 1ft around the speakers. My car was pretty air tight. Yes, the only thing that would move was the rear deck panel, which I think some thing under it for a spacer would keep it from slamming down, and you shouldn't hear any thing from it.

hahah, yea i see it does work but i also see a bias knock, that second door didn't get the stressful knock the first one got but i can hear the difference, sounds real hollow (first one, which i would take to be the one without dynomat)

dynamat makes a huge difference by increasing SPL levels inside the car as well as decreasing the amount of rattles you get from bass

if you want to be cheap just dynamat the sub (trunk area), it will have the largest effect

if you want to go all out do the doors for the speakers as well

i recommend dynamat xtreme cuz its really easy to put on

about $250 worth will do your whole car

There's one other thing that makes a serious difference. Poly fill is just the same stuff you find in 2 dollar pillows, I stuffed every metal panel in my trunk that had space with that poly stuff, even before I matted, it made a big difference, bigger than the mat imo. Just sandwich it into all the big crevasses in the trunk, then mat if you so choose. No one ever sees the poly fill anyway

poly fill sounds like a good idea, i just bought 32sq ft of extreme dynamat off ebay for like $123 shiped to my door and hopfully it works out nice, i notice a lot of rattle from my 3 12's but i also realize its 3 12's, theres probably always gonna be somthing that rattles but i also notice a lot from the spoiler since the clips or whatever holds it on broke on the end parts so im guessing thats causing some noise too

not as familiar with the 4th gens, but you could also try porting your rear deck to depressurize your trunk some

my experience with dynomat is that it works well in the doors. It gets rid of a lot of rattle but isn't 100% full proof, all systems are different and dynomat couldn't take out THEE BEST system IMO but what its great for is increasing the thump of bass. I hear a heavier thump when bass comes now than before. I would definitely use it again but if u r running like 600 watts of PURE power to the subs or something and have the super bomb system, i would go for something a little stronger, especially in the trunk....
