Sony XM Install...What Do I Need?

Hey, ive got a question for you smart Audio peeps. Im purchasing the Sony Xm Radio system for my 2K2 and I wanted to know how I would wire it so that I dont need the stupid tape player thing. Is there a way to have the tuner hardwired to the cars stock dash receiver? What will I need and while im at it, who has it cheapest but still a good company to buy from?

TIA!!!

What you need in an RF modulated tuner, or also known as FM modulated. You will also need the Nissan antenna adaptor (both ways), and a little bit of knowledge in the car audio field. Really not difficult at all.

Okay, I dont want one of those little controls for a modulator. all I thought I needed was the dash mounted tuner, an antenna and the kit that plugs into the back of our head unit. am I wrong?

You won't be able to do what I think you are trying; to use your headunit to control and display your XM radio. If Sony makes a headunit that is XM ready, then yes they would have made something that would connect the XM tuner to that head unit. So far, I have noticed only Kenwood and Pioneer with XM Ready headunits. There may be more, I don't know. I have the XM Ready Headunit and the XM tuner, however until I get another IP-BUS cable to connect the CD changer to the XM Tuner I will still have to use the RF Modulator.

Re: XM Radio

Okay, I checked www.carstereomall.com. They DO have an XM Ready headunit for Sony. However, I would have to check if Sony makes the IP-BUS cables to be compatible with Pioneer XM tuners or do they make them compatible with the Sirrus XM tuners..........

Re: Re; XM radio

Okay, peep this........

There is a Sony XM radio tuner. A Sony XT-XM1 satellite tuner. It is compatible with select Sony Unilink recievers, and the antennas are still sold separately, so you can pick up a inexpensive antenna. You have to find out if your Headunit is a Unilink Reciever. Then you'll have to pay $249.99. Go to http://sm.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-...u.asp?c=3&s=45

Hope that helps.....................
