I'm looking for a delayed christmas gift for my gf and I figured I could get her some rear speakers for her Honda Civic being that one is torn. She recently had a new Pioneer head unit installed with 45 watts/channel. I was thinking about getting her some snazy Kenwood 6x9 4-way speakers. Will 4-way speakers make that huge of a difference over 3-way speakers??

Also...I have a Kenwood "Mask" head unit that has been pretty reliable, but how are there speakers???

Any speaker recommendations or suggestions appreciated.

My first car stereo system began with Kenwood 6x9s in the rear and 6 1/2s in the front with no amp. Overall, they sound good. They will work fine. I actually preferred them over stuff like Infinity Reference, Pioneer, Sony, etc. However, you can do a lot better for not much more money. Try some of the Eclipse point source speakers, they sound nice for the money. If you are really into audio, you need to open your eyes and your wallet to a whole new world. I am not going to give you suggestions based on what I have, because everytime somebody says, "Adire is the best," someone else jump on it with, "nuh-uh, IDMAX," or "W7" or "Focal" or whatever. People are always flaming everybody about their personal taste. My personal taste falls with Diamond Audio. It has the sound I like and it fit the budget I was willing to invest. Some people might not like them, but hey, they don't have to. The DAs are for me.

I agree. I don't think that Kenwoods make very good speakers. I love the head units and CD changers (I've had them in all my cars) but I really didn't like the speakers at all. People also say the amps suck but I did have one of them that did a very good job for me.

As far as speakers, it is a very personal preference. Perhaps you should take your g/f to listen to them. What sounds good to you might not sound good to her. Or, if she's like my g/f she won't be able to tell the difference

If you plan to only run these off the radio, look for a set that has a high sensitivity rating (more volume per watt of input). Also, check to see if the 45x4 in the radio is RMS or Peak. Peak means sh*it, the RMS number is what counts.
