Hey guys, I was hoping to get some feedback from people that have had experience with a JBL BP600.1 amp or any other JBL model amp. I have an Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1 and I'm looking to power it with 300-400watts rms. I looked at the JL 500/1 but it's a little out of my price range. Would this JBL amp be sufficient or are they're other types of amps I should be looking at? Thanks everyone,

if you have the dual 4 ohm version of the 12.1 it should work great..

I had a 1200.1 and never had a problem..

 

Oh I should have stated that in my first post. I have the single voice coil 12.1 sub.

 

 

I have the bp1200.1 also, and I love it. It should work great with your sub.

 

I've got the JBL 600.1 running through an Alpine Type R, which is basically the same sub as the Kappa Perfect. I've got almost full power running through it, and it sounds great!

Plus, its got a cool little light at night

 

I've got a 1200.1 running 2 Kappa Perfect 12.1's and it's great. Isn't the 600.1 like 300 watts at 4 ohms? Should be enough to power the Kappa Perfect.

 

If it were me, I'd go with the 180.2 instead then.. a little more power (360w), and will work great as a front amp when you upgrade later

 

Yeah I was thinking about getting the 180.2 which puts out 360watts bridged at 4 ohms instead. Its much cheaper than the 600.1 but my only concern is that the 600.1 is meant to power subs because it has a bass boost and what not, but the 180.2 doesn't. Will this make any difference? Should I save some money and but the 180.2 or go for the 600.1? Thanks guys,

get the 600.1, if you ever get another sub the power will be there waiting for you, they are great amplifiers and dont get all that hot, especially at 4 ohms, they barely get warm.

 

Thanks for the input guys! I'll be going down to my friends audio shop tomorrow to get prices for the P180.2 and the BP600.1 and if the 600.1 isnt that much more I'll go for that.

Great amp...I have it's bigger brother, the 1200.1, and it runs cool at 2ohms. As mentioned above, you will not be making full use of that amp at 4 ohms. Also, be warned, that this amp does not have a subsonic filter. A subsonic filter proves very very very usefull when working with a ported enclosure (i ripped apart 2 subs on the 1200.1 because of no subsonic filter). However if you are going to only be running sealed (that is what the perfects are meant for anyhow), then you should be fine.

 

Hey thanks for the helpful info. So what you're saying is that if I get the BP600.1 I won't be using it to its full potential because I'll have it at 4ohms but I can always get a 2ohm sub right? And yes I will be putting the Kappa in a sealed enclosure so the subsonic filter issue shouldnt be a problem. Anymore suggestions would be much appreciated.

No problem. At 4 ohms the bp600.1 will put a rated 300wrms, where as at 2 and 1 ohm it will put out the rated 600wrms (realistically closer to 700). I suggest that you either get the dvc version of the perfect so that you can create a 2ohm load, or some time down the road, get a 2nd perfect that is in svc 4ohm configuration (so that the 2 svc 4 ohm subs together will create a 2 ohm load in parallel).

as far as bass boost goes.. I don't like using it, it puts an unnatural hump in the response that I don't care for..

but both are good amps, if you can get the D4 version like the king said, do that..

 

Okay I've been shopping around the net for this amp and just about all the people on ebay wont ship to my location in Toronto, Canada. I tried Etronics.com out of NY because they have the cheapest price ($184.99) but they charge tons in taxes. Are there any places that will ship to Canada and have good prices as well? Anyone from the .org that can get a hold of one of these amps for a good price?

All I can say is that when you finally find someone to ship to canada, you will be paying a lot in customs. I bought my jbl bp1200.1 a few years ago for 350US, and it came out to be ~700cdn after shipping/duty. I got my amp off of carstereo2000 (or something like that), off of e-bay, and I suggest you do not get it from them, as I am pretty sure that my amp was used before I got it (it was supposed to be new).

 

Yeah i've been shopping around for a while, at local stores, internet sites and ebay, and I've came to the conclusion that it will be in my best interest to just buy it locally in Toronto at a registered JBL distributer. One of my school friends owns an audio shop and can get me the 600.1 just above dealer cost plus taxes. I figure it'll be safer than buying it online and if I have any warranty issues it'll be much earier to go through him. Thanks for the input guys.
