5 channel amp phenonmenom...please read...>

finally fought mother nature yesterday and finished the preliminary install in my car. After putting in the amp and hooking up just the subwoofer, The amp is a PPI 5440 (5 channel), but I run it in 3 channel mode. I run my Boston Pros 4.5 comps and a single JL 12W0. Well it seems like the subwoofer output is not working. I checked all the other outputs and they function properly. I'm kinda wondering what the problem could be...solder joint? power supply? (dont think so but who knows) Any insight that you all may have would be greatly appreciated!

thanks

Did you confirm it is not a sub wiring problem by connecting the sub to one of the other channels? I am pretty sure MAtt, our moderator, has experence with PPI amps. What are you useing as an input signal for the sub channel?

I agree with this, also check if the sub output on your HU is turned on if that is where it is connected. Check the wiring inside the enclosure as well.

I've done both as in made sure that the sub out is turned on and its not the sub for that is working (hooked up to the rear channels now) I'm thinking solder joint...something internal....

if you bought it from a local store, just take it back and get another one. i dunno about your local stores, but the ones around my area are pretty good about just giving a new replacement for defective equipment. especially since you've proven the problem is in the sub channel and that your sub works.

the unit is about 3 years old...not a new one...and I actually ordered it...I'll probably end up taking it apart and putting that electrical engineering degree to use.

Hey Ola, ummm... if I recall... you weren't a very good Engineer to begin with!

Me in class ->

You in class ->

Just kiddin buddy.

Do you have the manual? Are you sure that you don't have to change the wiring in 3-channel mode? My urban 4-3-2-1-way amp has to be wired differently for each type of setup.

hey nupe,,,I agree with GLE. I only have experience with Alpine multi-channel amps, but on them you have to set a switch to the right setting. Do you have anything like that on yours? Like 1/2 or 1/2+3/4 or 1/3+5 You know something like that. Good Luck bud!!
