CD changer woes
CD changer woes
Alrite, here's the story 2 years ago my dad bought a maxima. We asked for the cd changer which works with the headunit, stupid dealer installs 12 disc rf cd changer. Now the cd changer does not work. I checked the power lines and there is power there when the car is off. But when the car and radio is on, there is no power to the remote lead. Also the cd changer does not allow me to eject the magazine when the car is off, which leads me to believe that the cd changer unit is bad, and possibley the remote lead is bad too.
Model number is CDX-FM1257:
This is as close as I can get for a wiring diagram, and looks very similar to my model:

Lastly the dealer which we bought the car from is under new ownership and the service manager refuses to help me out, but asked if I was planning on getting any oil changes done from him
The company that the dealer had contracted to install the changer doesn't want to help us either. They said it's out of the 12 month warranty. They wont even uninstall this unit without charging us. If I were to contact the bbb, or nissan, do you think they can be any help, I mean my dad paid $500 and they installed this pos and told us to f#$% off when we said it wasn't what we wanted. Now this thing doesn't work so now me and my dad are starting to complain again.
I saw courtesy has the nissan changer for $140 plus $40 for the kit. Does anyone know if there is any other required parts. None of those parts specificed a cable, so I am assuming one of them has it or it's already in my car?
Car specs:
2001 Maxima gle w/bose system and steering wheel audio controls
Any help is greatly appreciated

check the fuse
Did you check for power when the car is on? Some times people put a fuse or a diode on the remote lead so that may be blown. I usually put a relay in on the remote lead so that the circuit is isolated. My CD changer doesn't always reject the magazine when the car is off so that may not means anything. If u have another source of power handy, try to connect that to the remote lead and see if the changer turns on. Good luck.
Yeah, according to the wiring diagram, there is a resistor. I dont know where it would be located if it exists. Calling pioneer was useless with their hour waiting times and useless techs, dealer doesn't want to look at it, and the shop which installs it wants to be paid to diagnose the problem.
I was thikning of combining the remote and power wires to see if anythign happens, but I dont know if the resistor cuts down voltage or what, and if the resistor is blown there could there be some wiring problems
About rejecting the magazine when the unit is off, I'm pretty sure that my dad's never did that. I'm sure he was able to get the mag out anytime he wanted. I'll look into that. Thanks, you help is greatly appreciated.

I bought an Ebay unit (kit included) for $159+ship. It is a Clarion 6-disc changer and is Nissan OEM unit for Bose with changer button or AM/FM Casetter with CD controller. May not f-t your year max??? Installed it today. Works good. The template for marking mounting holes was wrong ( holes marked too wide ). That was my only problem though. I see his price went up $10.00 though.

The RF units do not usually work good with a Bose unit because of the way the dual antenna is set up.

Thanks for emailting them Bgohan. I appologize for not replying to this thread sooner. I took the unit to an authorized pioneer dealer once I had the power wires double checked. Paid $100 and they replaced an IC chip on the changer. My dad faxed the bill to nissan since it was their screw up to begin with and that the dealer wasn't going to help us out. To my suprise they are sending us a $100 credit towards service/maintainance. Although I expected nothign, I guess they are at least trying to improve
