do decks (headunits) make sound better???

I am being told by a friend that its not the new headunit that makes sound sound better. he says its the wiring that makes it sound better. does anyone know the real answer to this. I have listened to a stock deck on a car and then an aftermarket deck and i can tell the difference drastically in sound quality. is it the head unit itself? or the wiring making the sound sound better??? please help. i need to settle an argument. Thanks

It's the deck. If you get a new deck, you are just going to buy a wiring harness and reuse the factory wiring

It is the headunit that makes the sound sound better the only time wiring would make a difference is when your not running the correct size wires and for a basic setup with no subs the stock wiring should be fine, if you have subs and amps you need no less than 8gauge power wire per amp or 4 gauge to a distribution block for two amps and use good RCA cables.

Does a record player sound better than a cd? OF course not. A head unit is one of the best things you can do to improve sound. The better the signal is to start the better it is to finish. No wiring in relasonship to other things will also make a diff, cheap rca's vs good rca's for example.

Actually, a good turntable can produce the same sound quality as most CD players given that the record is in good condition. Problem is most records are junk in this day and age. They can play the same freqs, unlike a cassette. i will agree that the head unit will make a difference though

The HU does make a diff. But I would NOT replace the stock bose HU for something cheap. It wont make any diff. Plus, in a car like maxima with Bose system no one should change one thing without changing the entire system but thats just another story.

I would like to hear his arguement on how the wires make the difference. Maybe I'll buy a Spark-o-matic and some good wire!

Actually, a good turntable with new records will beat a CD hands down. Ask any DJ.
