Re: Problem.....

I'd have to hear it to have a better idea, but try this...

Sounds like you get that sound when playing "your" music, so I'll assume that means playing a CD. Next time it starts, switch to the tuner and see if happens with the radio playing. If it stops, then you know it's related to the CD section of the deck and your speakers are most likely ok. If it happens w/ both CD and radio, maybe try connecting one set of speakers at a time. Disconnect the rears for a few days, then try the fronts. If you still have the old speakers or you have a set laying around, disconnect all the new speakers and connect the old one with some speaker wire. Just leave them on the passenger floor for a few days and see if it happens with them. This would also eliminate the new speakers from the equation and you'll be able to see if it's the deck or not(I know it won't sound to pretty, but it will help prove something). It could be many things, so try try one step at a time until you can narrow it down. Good luck.

Another thought...

You can connect a set of speakers for a walkman to the RCA outputs of the deck. To do this, you will need an adapter to convert thr RCAs to a headphone plug(radio shack, like $3). Doing this, you could leave the adapter set up and play your system as-is. When it starts to mess the sound up, plug in the headphone speaks and see it happens....Not my personal preferred way to do it, but it may help.

Im not too sure if I know what you mean but.... do the speakers distort when you are playing music very loud ? If thats the case then your speakers are underpowered and are distorting. A simple solution would be in that case to get an amp.

amping your speakers will give them more fill, so it will seem bassier(is that a word? ) You should be able to play them pretty loud without an amp. I'm guessing on this, but you should be able to reach about 2/3-3/4 of the maximum volume setting before distorting. Try setting you bass control lower(0 or around the middle) and make sure your loudness control is off. What exact name and model of speakers do you have?

crazyravr has a good point. both of those speakers have high wattage requirements. Even with that 60x4 deck(actually about 20-25w RMS), you are barely pushing those speakers. An amp may be the way to go. I noticed the pro 6.5s handle up to 400W, but they are need a minimum of 20w. You are just barely making that with your deck.

how loud are you turning up your volume to get that distortion? How loud is it actually at that level?

You're welcome Personally, i would hook up another set of speakers, just to see if I have the same results. If you have a set laying around(preferably lower power handling), try them to see if the deck can push them ok. Also, I noticed you live in MA. I'm not sure if you are close to RI, but there is a meet on 3-2-03 in RI if you're interested. The 2-9-03 one was fun. We had about 15 total maximas and about 10-12 of us for lunch.

You might also want to look into sound deadening the doors where the speakers are mounted. Can make a world of difference. If the door is rattling or the back wave of the speakers leaking out into the car, you will have cancellation and distortion.
