Nissan/Infiniti have faulty sunroofs?

Has anyone on here had their Sunroom leak during a heavy rain? I've come across a few Nissan products ( mainly late '90s Infiniti) that have leaky sunroofs.. Is there an easy fix/solution to this common problem..... or is it not too common?

Mine leaked when I got it, the stupid previous owners neglected the sunroof drainage hoses so where the exited behind the rear tires, the Y fitting that connected the power antenna's drain hose and the sunroof's drain hose (on the passenger hand side) was completely rusted shut and had debris blocking it. I took it off completely and let the hoses run right out onto the ground after zip tying them to stay in place and I haven't had a problem since.

From what I've read many, many times here on the org over the years, the clogged drainage hose as describe above is the leading culprit of sunroof leaking problems. Check it out and report back to us.

isn't it common knowledge that after time all sunroofs will likely leak?

seems like the drainage maintenance is key with Nissan.

You don't take the hoses out (at least the sunroof one anyway, the radio antenae you can if you want), just get access to them and unclog them per the directions above.... You'll see once you get in there.

Yes, don't undo them... you can test if yours have clogged by spraying compressed air down into the tubes from the sunroof... or find where the hoses exit underneath of the car behind the rear tires.

However, I wouldn't disconnect/disregard the power antenna tube, you don't want it draining water into your rear quarter panel. I'm not sure about other gens, but in my third I can access the tubes from my jack area...

when my 3rd gen leaked it was because the rails were broken. Fixed the rails, stopped the leak.
this POS 4th gen has a whole TSB on how to fix it, plus a $100 kit that is part of the fix for it : for now I just hope for no heavy rain.
