Focal 165V

I'm about to buy a set for the front doors of my 4th gen. I'm using a Kicker ZR120 amp (small, but i got a good deal). My question is this; in a lot of reveiws they say that the magnet is pretty big, did anyone on here install these and run into any problems?

And also, when i baught the amp I actually baught 2 ZR120's off the guy, thinking that I would put speakers in the back, but i'm thinking that I want to just have a good set of components up front, is there anyway to hook up the 2 amps together to output more power to the focals, or is this a bad idea....... i'm kind of a noob , but i'm learnin. And if its a bad idea to hook up the amps together, would it be a GOOD idea to put a set of mid bass speakers on the back deck?

Oh, ya for the bass I already have one 12 inch JL W6v1 hooked up to JL 250 watt amp.

thanks, Mike

Sorry, I can't be much help on the technical side, but I can vouch for the quality of the Polyglass components. I have been completely satisfied, I even put a pair in the back doors. Regarding the amps, and wiring, that's what I paid the stereo shop for .

im wondering the same thing myself...

im going to wait till a friend of mine gets online who owns the focal utopias and ill have him measure the magnets and depth...and you can go from there..

which line of focals are you doing? if i were you, id look for a soundstream rubicon 302 or something to power your front stage...those kicker amps are just power hungry beasts and not too good for highs..(ive tried it) had a zr360 on my highs before.

I put in a set of the 165K2 poly kevlar 6.5 inch components and I had to make up a couple of mdf rings to keep the window from hitting the magnet. Luckily there is enough room between the door and the panel that it wasn't a bigger deal.

thanks for the responses, Mazima Dan, what do you mean by mdf rings? What did you use to make these?

thanks,

Mike

60watts RMS would be sufficent to each focal component. Ive ran polykevlar, and utopias. For sale right now 1 pair focal UTOPIA 7" midbass. 100 each. so 200 for the pair. =)

Mike,

MDF is a type of wood often used to build speaker enclosures. Although, you can also substitute hardwood plywood.

Made them using a jig saw or better yet a router with a circle cutting jig.

I think I needed about 1.25 inches of spacers.
