Sirius install help?

As my sig says, I have the Eclipse CD 5442 HU and got the free Panasonic Sirius unit. I had a shop install it today and they tried like hell to get the Aux to work on the Eclipse, but they said while it worked and did get sound, I had no control over the volume at all. They had to use FM Modulation.

Any help getting this to work through the aux would be greatly appreciated.

I asked them to cut the pig tail down quite a bit off the Panasonic Antanae, but they said they couldn't do it. Any comments on this?

On a side note, thanks to everyone for recommending the Scosche install kit. While the color doesn't match exactly, it looks much better than the black kits. I had the shop fit the Panasonic Sirius unit in the 2nd din and custom fab a plate for the sides covered in vinyl. It looks awesome!

sounds more like a headunit problem. If you have the owner manual for the deck, I would read up on how the input works. Maybe there's a setting to change that.

Unfortunately the owners manual sucks for the Eclipse. It tells you how to work the different features, but it's vague and doesn't really tell you what the features do or even what they are.

I was thinking about this. If you want to see if it is the deck, here's something you can do. If you have a walkman or a discman, you can buy an adapter at Radio Shack that converts a headphone jack to audio jacks. Connect the walkman to your inputs and see if you can control the volume through your deck. That will at least tell you if it's the inputs or not.

I'm not a radio guru but:

one thing i noticed about the free panasonic unit is this model (SRF100) is made to use the FM mod and not for sirius ready radios. The sirius ready model (SRT100) has a different wiring harness. The Wire lead 1 & connector 1 has a round plug (+ 1 more meter) on the SRT and a rectangle plug on the SRF. You can check it out on p38/39 of the manual. From what I understand, the wiring harness is the difference. Maybe this is the problem? What plug is on back of the Eclipse?

Tomorrow, I will try to confirm that with panasonic and buy the other harness for myself.

I didn't look at the aux inputs on the Eclipse or the output for the Panasonic. It appears that my HU's aux in is the same as a walkman jack. What does the output look like for the Panasonic?

If the Eclipse does have a walkman type output, would there be any way to get this to work without using the fm modulator?

Just in case anyone runs into this problem again, I called the shop today and they called Eclipse. Eclipse informed them that they needed to use different patch cables.

Alright, the shop told me they knew what the problem was and I took my car to them this past saturday and sure enough they fixed the problem with the volume for the AUX not working. Now the satellite sounds like dog poop warmed over. It sounded much cleaner on FM Modulation. The bar graphs that bounce up and down are almost all the way up like too much juice in being passed through the AUX. Help?
