Bose highs/mids verse after market...?

I am wondering how loud the bose mid/highs can go without distoring. For instance would it be possible to get a 4 channel amp and mount it under the seat, to power the bose speakers instead of using the amp thats in my alpine hu and get the output louder while keeping it sounding good to balance out with a diamond audio 1200 RMS sub/amp combo? Or would this be a waste because the bose isn't capable of going and louder without distortion?

There is no way that the Bose can hang with that sub/amp combo. You should replace them.

even at mid range volumes? I don't have enough money to spend another 500-600$ on this stuff.

Man I am telling you. I just bought an Infinity Basslink two days ago and it is unbelievable. I am a big research guy and finally decided on the Infinity because I want trunk space and something to compliment my BOSE. It is way better than expected. They origionally sold for $450, now Circuit City has them for $300. But wait, it gets better. You can get them brand new on e-bay right now for $200. I got mine for $200 + the remote which installs under the dash--including shipping. Circuit City will install it for $100. That includes wiring and labor + installation of the remote. The BOSE actually sound twice as good now and I can turn it up so loud that it hurts and it stays clear! One more thing. I removed the BOSE sub and lift the face-plate on. This hole acts as a port for the Basslink-works awesome. Let me know if you have any questions. Sorry for the ramble, but I just had it done yesterday and its sweeeeeet.

I have the Bose system and it does OK keeping up with my 300 watt amp and 12" kicker sub. You might be OK.

I'd have to say that the base link would not even come close to performing like this diamond sub. In my opinion infinity is just like bose. Its sounds ok, but its way over priced incomparison to high end car audio which sound 100 times better.

If 300 rms sounds good, I have a feeling 1200 rms will be overkill, but oh well. If I can find someone to buy my entire bose and scrape up another $300 I will get some component speakers and a 4 channel amp.

You won't find better sound for $200 and still have space in the trunk. Until you hear the set-up with the Bose don't knock it. Are there better subs? Of course. However, I did not have to buy a box, separate amp and spend over $500. By the way, Infinity is very good at what they do. All they do is speakers and they have great technology in them. I don't listen to all that rap **** so maybe other subs would handle that type of music better. However, the Basslink gives great clean crisp bass on a variety of music, perfectly complimenting the Bose mids and highs.

what type of 15's. Like equivalent to JL 13W7 or something like pioneer 15 inch subs? Theres definitely a huge difference between these diamond subs and other cheaper subs I am sure you probably know.

No one is disputing diamond makes a good sub. We are answering your questions about the Bose speakers and how they handle with subs/high levels. We both said they are great with sub set-ups and are clear. Make your own decision then.

It is pretty much a given that you will completely over power the Bose stuff. The thing that you have to decide is it too much. Only you can determine that after installing it. 1 option is turn the gain way down. The next is to upgrade to some nice amped components.

The rear should be for rear fill and back seat passengers only. Personally, I would amplify a set of components up front and leave the bose in the back. That is my plan anyway.

Anybody know is the JL Audio VR650-CSi / 6.5" Component set of high quality. I think they are the evolution series, and these are the high end components they sell. Also It says it has 70 RMS. Is it 70 watts per channel, or 70 whats combined?

I think a good amp for those would be the JBL BP80.2. They can be found cheap at www.ikesound.com. I have the BP300.1 for my sub and I am impressed. That will be my next stereo purchase. Besides that, I would go Alpine, RF or MTX.
