How far away should tweeters be from the ear?

I'm considering putting some tweeters in the back pillar so back seat people get some music clartiy, instead of all bass from the subs. The thing is, it would be less then 6-8" from their head. I dont want to blow their ears out, so what to do?

I wouldn't do it. The tweaters in the front should be enough for them. But if you really must, them I would suggest bi-amping the rear components so you can turn the gain down on the tweaters.

It reall sounds like crap in the back though. The sub is sitting right behind them and the back speakers on down on the bottom of the door. It sounds really muffled. Would it be better if i put the tweeters behind them?

I have components in the back, and there were a couple of options the stereo shop provided me with: In the "B" pillars, in the doors, or on the back deck firing off the back glass. I decided to put them in the doors, slightly under the door handle. The first choice would have been in the material just above the door handle, but the installer said over time, like 6 months, the material would separate and it would look like crap. I dont even have that much bass, I just wanted the back peeps getting the same audio experience as the front. With matching the levels, I believe I have accomplished that, contrary to the nay-sayers that think it will throw off your staging.
