Bass Blockers

What do you guys think of bass blockers on speakers?

Waste of good $$$$$. Most people use "bass blockers" inline with tweeters, you can easily install a small electro cap inline with a resistor.

I am not sure of the prices, but I think they are like $10 or $15, you can go to your local electronics (radio shack) and get the parts for under $2. But if you don't want the headache i guess $10 is not too bad.

does anybody know how to "build" a bass blocker? what parts do you get from radio shack? any write up of any kind? i am interested in this.

Do a web search for a high pass passive crossover. Should yield much info. Also check out Parts Express, they usually have all the right crossover quality components.

You also need to know the nominal impedence of the speaker you are designing the crossover for. BTW many tweeters are not 4 Ohm.

It's just an inductor. Here is my friend's x-over designer, you can use that to figure it out. Just enter 1st order butterworth and the frequency you want attenuated.
