Please help me figure out which speakers are right for me.

I have recently purchased a Kenwood KDC-X569. I haven't installed it yet because I did not want to spend $50 for an adaptor to use with the stock speakers because I would rather buy 4 new speakers. I need some advice on what I should get.

I want really good sounding speakers but I do not want to buy an amp or amps to power them. They're just going to be powered by the Kenwood HU which puts out 22 watts RMS.

I read in another thread that many people like the Infinity Reference 652i's which are fairly cheap. Should I get a pair of these for the back and some type of 3-way's for the front? What speakers would you get if you were me?

All suggestions/recomendations/advice is greatly welcomed. Thanks.

Brian

I am going to get those infinitys sometime this summer. I hear really good things for being powered by just the HU.

What type of sound are you looking for? I suggest the Pioneer ts1647 all way around. They are about $30 on the internet. Good mids and highs, alright bass, plays loud and clear enough to go with the subs I am putting in. The infinity's are awesome, just didn't want to pay for them. Also good are the rockford fosgates. They are what I am going to go to after I install my subs, they are just more expensive. My friend has them all the way around in a 91 max and they rock better than his bose ever did.

I'm looking for the best overall sound I can get running my speakers off the HU (Highs, Mids and Lows). Thanks for both of your inputs so far. Keep them coming.

Look for a speaker with a high sensitivity. The higher the sensitivity, the less power needed to get the same amount of loudness. From my experience, Eclipse have pretty good coaxials.

EX: a speaker with a high sensitivity like 92dB will perform better(or louder) than one with 87dB.

How about Kenwood eXcelon KFC-X178

In my search I came across the Kenwood eXcelon KFC-X178's.

Specs
- sensitivity 93 dB
- frequency response 25-40,000 Hz
- recommended power range 2-60 watts RMS

Anyone have any experience with these?

your best bet is to find a place nearby that sells those and check them out for yourself. I almost bought speakers that people suggested, but went to the store first. I compared to a couple others and ended up getting something different. Those Kenwoods look like they would be perfect for what you are looking for though.

I really like the infinity refrence speakers. I recently put the following in my 94 GXE
Infinity Refrence
- 3 Way 6 by 9's rear
- 2 way 5 1/4 front
Alpine CDA 9813 (27 watts RMS)

I just got the alpine head unit because I was going to get an amp for the infinity speakers but also wanted to plat mp3's. It was perfect. I am really happy with the sound. Only problem is I now need to upgrade the Bazooka EL A8HP. It dosent sound as good anymore. Have to save some $$$

I would recomend the Infinity Refrence speakers. Good stuff

5-way seems kind of pointless. some of the best speaker systems(usually component sets) are composed of only a tweeter and a midbass. That's only a 2way. What's the advantage of a 5-way? Better yet, is that 5-way crossed-over so all 5 components are not pushing the same frequencies? I'd be afraid of a very overpowering midrange. Has anyone actually heard these pioneers before?

This is the best way to figure out which speakers are best for you. First figure out how much you wanna spend, then listen to a few of the speakers that fall in your range and pick the ones that sound best to you. Everyone here has different tastes. What may sound tight to someone else may not sound tight to you. This is something you have to listen to everyday so have faith in your own ears and choose yourself.
