Questions for car audio experts

I have 2 questions not pertaining to my maxima but to my other vechicle (S-10 Blazer) and I see that the people here are really smart and willing to help a novice.

1. I have a headunit with one set of pre-amp outputs. Can I use them to control 4 speakers with an amp? Will I be able to fade and balance?

2. What would be a better way to go, 6x9 3-way speakers or a component set up with a woofer and a tweeter?

Thank You

1. Yes you can control 4 speakers
If you use RCA (low level) input, fade = no, balance = yes
If you buy an amp with high level inputs, fade = yes, balance = yes

2. Properly installed, components are better any day

For the rear speakers I would get the cheapest thing that can handle the power. Unless I had the money to get a component mid that is identical to the mids up front.

All depends on how much $$$ you have. If you care about imaging, then get coax for the rear and components for the front. Also use the pre amp input on your amp even if it does have high level input.

As far as only 1 set of rca outputs, you can also go with a crossover that has single inputs and multiple outputs to control different areas (front, rear, sub etc). Components are much better for imaging. Must be installed correctly or coax's will sound better.
