Help from those with custom trunks

I'm planning to put a custom box in my trunk and want a clean looking install without the standalone box look. Its gonna be a single 12 inch sub in a ported box right against the back of the armrest. Since i don't want it to look like i just bought a box and stuck it in there, i want to know how can i make it kinda blend in with my trunk. I was thinking cutting out a piece of board putting it up against the box on each side and top to cover up whats behind for a flush look. question about that, how do i mount the wood or the box to my trunk? do i drill holes into my trunk or do i use a piece of wood as the base and build off of that? Also do i have to drill into the sub box to attach the wood?
