Best placement for 10" sub in 5th gen?

I am making a custom box for my 10" Infinity Reference 1030w with Basspro 6. So, box construction isn't the issue. I am thinking of putting the box all the way in back of the trunk, on the driver's side (In the crevace where there is a hole for an extra jack). I would face the woofer out. Anyone have better suggestions on where to place the sub? Behind the seat, firing direction, etc...? Thx.

Oh, I have a 2003 Maxima SE, non-Bose.

i always find that in most cars subs sound best up against back seat facing towards the back of the car. this has been my experience so i can't speak for others.

Where you want to put it is very good, the only spot that I have found to be better is to fire it through the ski hole.

Re: Best placement for 10" sub in 5th gen?

I'm convinced there is little difference in output regardless where you mount the box in the trunk. Everything I've read, including tests in car audio magazines seem to indicate this. The only sizable exception I know of is to vent the woofer directly into the cabin area, preferably through the package shelf up towards the rear window. Unfortunately that's not easy in most installs. Having said that, I am somewhat disapointed in my bass output and SQ (JL 10W6). I believe that's mainly because of the rattling rear package shelf & the fact I was so used to the SQ in my previous vehicle, a Ford Explorer. That was a JL Steathbox with a 10W0 or 10W1 I believe.

I chose to mount my box exactly where you plan to mount yours. I did this mostly to save on trunk space. I've come to the conclusion that cars with trunks suck for bass response.

Tony, I plan to set up my sub the way you have it at 1st, and see how it sounds.

My only concern now is the wiring. Not so much tapping the speakers or running the positive from the battery. But, undoing the side sills to run all the wires neatly into the trunk. I believe I have to remove the back seat? Thx for any advice....

Although I can't quote from memory as to exactly removing the rear seat, I do recall it not being that difficult. I believe there are little tabs that you pull forward underneath the seat that release it and you can pull it out. I'm not sure if there are bolts towards the back of the seat that need to come out as well...there probably are. Just take your time and look around for bolts and screws to take out before you start yanking on stuff.

Your car should look something like this during the install process

Wow, you really took everything out! I wasn't planning to remove the front seats, just simply run the positive 8 gauge wire from the battery under the side sills, to the trunk. I believe I have to remove the rear seat bottom cushion in order to feed the wire to the trunk. I'm only running a 250W amp, and 1 sub.
