Help installing subs

Hello everybody, I am having some trouble installing a set of subwoofers. It's not so much trouble as it is I have no clue whats wrong... I have all the wiring done, the RCA outs from my HU are connected to the amp in the trunk. All the wiring seems to be done and working, cause the amp lights up when the car is turned on. Only problem is there is no sound coming out of the subs. I checked everything I could think of, but does anybody have any suggestions as to why the amp would be recieving power, but the speakers don't work? Thanks.

sounds like a connection problem, taking into consideration that the amp and sub are fine. double check the lines. make sure the RCA's are making good contact with the amp and HU.

check the wiring from subs to terminal on box and make sure that your gain is not all the way down. do you know for a fact that the amp works? the subs?

thats the thing, I double checked all the wiring from the sub to the amp, and the RCAs are definitely connected. We even took a sub from my home theater to see if the subs were broken but that didn't work either. My only guess is if the amp is broken... today I'm gonna try getting a voltmeter of some kind and check the speaker wire going into the subs.

What kind of deck do you have? Check the bass volume on the deck. It may have a separate volume control for the subwoofer like mine. My deck has the ability to turn the amp volume all the way down. If that isn't the problem, check to make sure that your speakers are connected properly, and that they are wired for the right load (some amps won't put anything out) My amp has a 'malfunction' light that comes on when there is some kind of electrical problem (usually when you have the subs wired incorrectly)

What do you mean by "wired for the right load" ? I'm not the smartest guy when it comes to these things. This is my first attempt at installing anything on my car. Oh yeah, I have a regular 220 watt Blaupunkt HU, I don't think there is a seperate control for the RCA pre-outs. Thanks for the replies.

I was thinking... if there is a fuse that is blown on the amp would that cause the speakers not to get any power? Cause even though the amp is powered up the speakers might not get any power. ?

if the fuse in the amp is blown, it shouldn't even turn on.
what are the specs on the sub and amp?

Kenwood KAC-848 for the amp... its 4 channels, but I don't know how much power it pushes out... both of these came with the car but weren't hooked up.

it will turn on, but will not send a signal to the sub.. I had this problem with my old MTX amp because my ground wire was too short and everytime the it pulled out the fuse blew and the light stayed on..

don't be silly, if there is no ground to your amp it will not turn on.

No, I meant when the ground wire became unplugged, it blew the fuse on the amp. Even though the fuse blew, once I connected the ground wire back up the power light on the amp came back on with NO sound. So check the fuse on the amp....
