You have to purchase an IR system (not sure of cost) that allows you to retain the steering wheel controls. Bascially you plug one IR piece into the Factory harness and the other piece into the head unit and then those two decipher what is going on.

Where do you get the IR system?

As you know from my previous post i am S.O.L on warranty. So i am seriously thinking about aftermarket. Can i get that IR system at Best buy, Circuit city, Soundadvice , stc, or any radio shop that sells car systems?

Visit the Audio forum FAQ's

You are looking for the PAC-SWI-X. You can get them at crutchfield or their website which I think is http://www.go2pac.com.

it's easy to wire up
instructions tell you how to do it.
takes 3 wires, 2 are power wires, 3rd is a long wire with an LED at the end that gets mounted within visual sight of your headunit. that's all

oh yeah, i'm selling mine for $40 shipped. mgalvis01@hotmail.com

Well all I want is for the function button or Mode Button so its labeled I beleive to work. I don't really car about the volume controls I just want to be able to view gas mileage and stuff like that. There has to be some way to jumper that connector after installing an aftermarket deck as this button has nothing to do with the deck.

Please help anyone.

This thing enables you to programm the stock steering controls to your aftermarket unit.

Your question and Rafe's question are different. Rafe's has been answered (SWI-X).

Your answer is to ground the brown wire on the unused four wire harness. I think it has a stripe, brown with green or black. I forget. Can we put this in the FAQ? I swear someone asks this every day.

Yeah I know they were but I couldn't find the answer in the FAQ as you stated it isn't there and would be a good idea seeing that anyone with aftermarket decks will run into this issue.

But none the less thank you for the info as I have been looking for it for awhile. Thanks Gents for your help.

No not confused at all. I don't care about the volume controls just the one button that controls the mo0de for temp, gas mileage, etc. Just wanted to know how to get that functioning already. This should have been a different question off this post but it kinda fit in with the controls not working after the install of the aftermarket deck. The questions been answered anyway.
