Factory Bose and MP3s.

I have a GLE, with the Bose system. It doesn't play MP3s too well. Sometime it does and sometimes starts skipping and shuts down eventually. I imagine other Bose users experience the same. I am thinking of adding a CD changer that is MP3 compatible.
It may be a silly question, but is this my only option without changing my head unit?

As far as I know, the factory (BOSE or not) radios don't decode MP3s...

Maybe you got a Limited Edition

maciek, maybe it's mp3's converted to .wav files because as far as i know factory bose does not play mp3's. maybe it's just the quality of the cd's you're using when burning mp3's>>>>>converted to .wav files.

U don't, huh...?
Well mine does. I can download a CD, pop it in and it will play a song or two and after a couple start skipping and jamming up and eventually comes up with an Err message on the screen.
Why don't you think so? Do you work for Bose?

If you are burning a cd and click "create an audio CD" in the wizard, then you are making a standard audio cd with wav's, not mp3's. Easy CD and Nero automatically convert mp3's when you select that option. If you want a true mp3 cd, you have to select the option to "create a data cd". Bose HU's don't play mp3's. You can get a portable mp3 player and connect it somehow, but you are better off buying a new HU.

I download songs from lets say Kazaa, use Roxio CD creator and put them onto a CD. After it is all transfered to the cd it asks to finalize it, I do. Than I play it.
Are those MP3s or WAVs? Either way it will not function properly in the car player.

I do the same, and most CD-Rs are CRAP, I've found that the best cdr for compatability is TDK. Other cheap crap cds probably won't work. Do yourself a favor and buy a pack.

Yes, like posted above. Your cd's are in wav format. And most factory decks have a problem reading burned cds. (as compared to aftermarket) If they were in Mp3 format you would have at least 75+ tracks on the cd. Depending on the length of eack track and quality of sound.

You should actually be able to get about 150 mp3 files on one burned CD, which is pretty sweet, thats like having an 8-disc changer basically. I'd go for an aftermarket head unit that can read mp3s, and that is XM or Sirius-ready.

Before my stock Bose started eating CD's, it did play CD-R's as long as the disc was created as a music CD, not a MP3/data disc...the only problem was that those CD-R's are thicker (even moreso with a label) than pre-recorded discs and would sometimes get stuck in the player, and subsequently scratched to hell.

Actually if you want a "True Mp3 CD" you have to click on Mp3 CD not Data CD. Never tried it but IF (a big IF) it can read a few songs then in theory it can read them all.

maybe with roxio, but with nero, the option is data cd, which, when loaded with mp3's is called an mp3 cd.
